DailyStar, metro, mail, OK! reporting the show has yet to be renewed & could be axed

Has Big Brother been evicted? Reality show faces C5 axe

The channel was bought by Viacom in a deal worth £450m last month, and chief executive Philippe Dauman has hinted that the reality TV giant could be dropped from the schedules in a shake up

Big Brother moved to Channel 5 in 2011, after Channel 4 axed the series in 2010, and has proved a huge hit for the network, regularly helping it to beat Channel 4 in the ratings

However, the show has aired its last edition under its current deal with the conclusion of the most recent celebrity series, which saw Hollywood star Gary Busey crowned champion.

While host Emma Willis told viewers that the show would return in January 2015, Big Brother has not yet been officially renewed by Channel 5.

The show usually airs two celebrity editions a year as well as a regular civilian run.

ITV was rumoured to be interested in buying the rights to air Big Brother on its new reality-based channel ITVBe, which has become the new home of TOWIE.

However, the cost of the rights – thought to be about £20m a year – were said to be too high for the broadcaster to use on one of it’s digital channels.

Im thinking there may be some truth behind these rumours and im hoping its true even if its means BB has to be off our screens for a few years to go to a channel where its going to be looked after and not tarnished and run into the ground like it has been.

OK! Article

BIG Brother may have had the best year yet but it could all be over for the popular reality show.

According to new reports, Emma Willis and co-host Rylan Clark could see themselves out of a job as Channel 5 bosses hint the programme's shelf life is over.

Speaking at a Broadcasting Press Guild event, the Chief Executive of Viacom (owners of the channel) hinted that he was on the look out for even better shows.

As reported by the Daily Star, Philippe Dauman said: "Maybe we continue with Big Brother, maybe if for some reason that didn't work out we have the ability to put out other great programming.

"You can go too far with one genre even when it's successful."

Dropping an even bigger hint that it was all over, he added the channel had to "keep fingers in different pots

And not only does that mean no more BB where we get to meet the likes of Helen Wood and Steven Goode, but it also means the end for Celebrity Big Brother too.

Big Brother made the transition to Channel 5 in 2011 – where it has become a ratings winner – from Channel 4 who axed it in 2010.

Emma and Rylan are yet to comment on the reports.

Do you think it's time to call it quits for Big Brother? Let us know in the comment box below.

Pretty sure all are owned by Northern & Shell, who sold Channel 5. Bitterness.

Is Metro owned by Northern and Shell?

They aren't exactly slating it either they are praising the show and saying it would be missed.

The articles sound positive, which is nice I suppose.

I think Channel 5 will face more of a backlash than Channel 4 because when Channel 4 axed it there was immediately rumors about it being brought back with Channel 5, and now Channel 5 is seen as it's final chance.

They'd be ridiculous to axe it - Celebrity Big Brother has given them 9 of their Top 10 ratings of the year.

I wouldn't mind if they cut down to January CBB and that's it.

The main show is in need of a break.

Good, I'm glad. I'd rather see it axed than on C5, it isn't BB anymore on that poor excuse of a channel. Plus, this opens up a chance for another channel to grab it and actually revive it properly rather than doing what channel 5 did; which was putting poundland lipstick on a skeleton of a formerly great show.

But there is a series next year lol

Metro's owned by the same people as the Daily Mail

The boss doesn't seem to want it urgently axed, but at the same time it doesn't seem to be high on his agenda - it'll probably carry on like Sam said in another thread with 2 series (A Celeb and a civilain) and not much change to the quality as no effort will be put into it - it'll just be used and abused to keep them above channel four whilst they put their money into something like Geordie Shore: Mortal in Magaful Part 45: Gaz Pulls a Worldie on his 50th Birthday.

Have you read the article?

They all say even though Emma has said BB is returning it has not officially yet been renewed by Viacom.

Big Brother has not been renewed yet lets get that straight. If you can show me an announcement, statement or new contract I will take that back.

That could be good though, less effort may mean back to basics, exactly what the show needs!

Let's just say I can't imagine the Daily Mail doing a double page spread on the black-eyed ghost girl haunting Kimberly's vagina

This is what I've been saying, I don't even mind it on C5 if they cut the Summer CBB and went Back to basics

They always report on stuff like this when a bad series has happened like after BB12

...no, less effort will mean recycled twists, recycled tasks, shoddy editing... well, even more than previous years... :worry:

It would be a complete and utter joke for them to get rid of their most successful and only watchable TV show, Viacom really need to save BB, otherwise they would be killing off Channel 5 forever!!!

Fingers crossed they're wise enough to save their most successful show otherwise a bunch of BB die-hard fans will go all the way to Elstree Film Studios and hold a mass protest against the axing!!!

Amy Jade 10-10-2014 09:22 PM

C5 would be idiotic to get rid of BB when it brings in their biggest viewing figures.

If the cost is the issue then they could easily fix that by bringing the show back to basic and actually getting casting on the ball to get cracking housemates - no need for all the luxury either, strip the format right back and let it roll.

I agree as to all you say above.

It would be even worse to now announce so near to January that it wasn't going to be done next year.

Channel 5 uses BB to push its other drama or topical programmes inbetween BB and BBBOTS.
They would lose massive numbers of viewers without BB after getting the steady run of the last 4 years.

BB has lots of time left in it yet, in my view, and it needs to be said when a last series is on Channel 5 and not just cut it from their plans.

Hopefully with no delay,if Channel 5 do want rid, another Channel will pounce for it.
Any time off the screens then I can see it being shelved and possibly never brought back by anyone.

Hopefully a positive and in my view, right, announcement as to its future will be rapidly forthcoming.
