Do You Consider The Phrase "Take It Like A Man" To Be A Homophobic Insult.

By which I mean, is the phrase "Take It Like A Man" in your opinion a homophobic insult. Not in relation to anyone in particular but in the real world general way.

I do think it can be seen as sexist but I am specifically talking about a homophobic insult.

Mystic Mock 23-01-2015 12:31 AM

No, but it is sexist.

MB. 23-01-2015 12:31 AM

Course not. I don't like the phrase itself, but there's nothing homophobic to it. That's Perez for you.

rionablue 23-01-2015 12:36 AM

No of course not

daniel-lewis-1985 23-01-2015 12:55 AM

No but it can be used in a way to intimidate a man or to make them feel insignificant.

Kind of bullying tactics.

BTW by man I mean any man wether they are straight or gay it doesn't matter.

How on earth is it sexist even. Men are stronger - FACT. (physically wise) It is a man quote to a (pussy) of another man.

Ha, just read your specific. You got me there!

I see your point but the definition does use the phrase "stereotypical masculine traits". So imo that should be acknowledged even if you disagree with the meaning.

"Take it like a man" does not truly mean it in the literal sense in my opinion anyway.. I think it means to just take it with some courage. (Not that Hopkins was in the right to even tell that to Perez) I think it is a commonly used phrase. Certainly not a homophobic one not in my opinion anyway.

Amy Jade 23-01-2015 01:21 AM

No of course not lol

From one man to another. Of course it does. Thus not sexist.

Kizzy 23-01-2015 01:55 AM

No not at all.

Rob! 23-01-2015 01:59 AM

No and anybody who thinks it is is a complete dingbat. Not even Perez thinks it's actually a homophobic statement except it's one of his nasty little weapons to use it against people.l which is actually the soul reason why I hate him. He did it to Ken and he's tried to do it to Katie.

jennyjuniper 23-01-2015 05:19 AM

If I am making coffee for guests (male or female) I say do you take it like a man?, meaning black. And to date no-one has been remotely offended by this.
Anyway where is the insult? Homosexuals are men, even at a stretch, Perez.

Mrbigbrother 23-01-2015 06:10 AM

Parez is basically saying he isn't a man, and infact he is a woman!

Pete. 23-01-2015 06:17 AM

No don't be silly

AnnieK 23-01-2015 06:21 AM

No, it's not homophobic, possibly sexist like "man up" and intimating men should react / act in a certain stereotypical way...but even that's pushing it a bit far. It's just a phrase

VanessaFeltz. 23-01-2015 06:23 AM

I said yes but i think it is not an insult but it could be offensive not only for only gays for other men. It is not a good phrase to use whatsoever

Mick 23-01-2015 06:27 AM

No way in the context she intended which he knew but attempted to twist. What she has got wrong is to underestimate his ability to identify peoples weakness and use them.

He so wanted her to throw that water at him it almost happened and I think eventually she will do something similar and he will have beat her.

He was the gainer from that task and managed every topic to his advantage.

the truth 23-01-2015 07:30 AM

its sexist though not homophobic though Hopkins intended it that way

Macie Lightfoot 23-01-2015 07:32 AM

No, but there's a lot of overlap between gender norms and sexuality, so with that and the fact that it came from Katie Hopkins I'm entirely open to the idea that it is homophobic.

I agree that she intended it as sexist, and at the end of the day she should've got a warning for that and the weight comment towards Perez, but for some reason those prejudices are seen as fine by Big Brother because it's not racism or homophobia.
