I'd thought we should have an "English Languge Test" For The Americans as the thing that I don't like most about them is how often online they pull up British people and tell them they haven't spelled a word correctly or understood it's meaning.

When it's us that invented the English Language.Most of them are too thick to understand that English came from England

even though they ignorantly normally call this nation England,not knowing that there are three other countries in the United Kingdom.

Probably don't know what the word "United" means.

So thought it'll be really funny to test them on the language,teach them how to spell words and what the meaning of them is.

My fingers are itching to type an extensive defense of the USA, but I won't since this poster clearly can't see how they have exposed their own ignorance with this thread. I do want say something about the "Americans" thing, since I have heard it a million times from people around the world. I can assure you that the vast majority of people from my home country are well aware that their are two continents with America in their names and that those continents encompass many nationalities. I say majority because their are stupid citizens here in the USA, just as there are in other countries the world over.

I believe we started calling ourselves Americans around the same time that we stopped calling ourselves colonists. I wasn't there so I can't be sure. I think it's more an issue of expediency than arrogance. The country is called the United States of America. Should we call ourselves USAish? USAese? Unitedons? Statians? Theists?(that might be a problem for a country with the separation of church and state in it's constitution) None of those names seem to flow off the tongue. Since there are no other countries with America in their names, it is an easy single word to identify our nationality. Not to claim dominance over two continents as some believe.

Actually Lostalex I was responding to the original post. I know it has nothing to do with the title, but that didn't stop the initial poster from implying that all people from the U.S. are ignorant gun toting bigots who should be forced to take an English language test before setting foot in the UK.
