Boy featured in Barbie advert for the first time ever

Quote:

A Barbie commercial that features a boy playing with the doll for the first time ever is getting praise for challenging gender barriers.
The adorable blonde boy with a Mohawk is seen smiling and giggling with two female friends in the ad as they play with the new limited edition Moschino Barbie dolls.
'Moschino Barbie is so fierce!' he says to the camera as he holds Barbie's pursue before placing it on her arm.

..it's a good thing but I don't know Hayden...the children seem a little ' rich Hollywood-ish', and I would have liked it to be more just regular children and boy.../if that makes sense....but yeah, a good and positive thing...

Umm...

It looks like a throwback 80's barbie, look at the boombox. But 90s in the ad judging by the phone.
Hark at me coming over all smithers

Did anyone else think they were saying 'Mosquito Barbie'?

Kind of cringy ad though. And I don't think they're being inclusive of genders as much as they are using the perception of gay culture/fag hag stereotypes to their own advantage. I'm not fooled here into thinking that they're doing something bold and progressive for society.

Livia 17-11-2015 09:21 AM

Not looked at the film... is it Pole Dancing Barbie?

Denver 17-11-2015 11:35 AM

I'm against this tbh

Samm 17-11-2015 01:49 PM

Not against it but they should of at least got a less stereotypical kid

When I have watched boys and girls playing with barbies together... the boys
usually participate by holding dialogue about the imaginary characters they have created, usually emulating life as they see it. What is going on in this video, just isn't realistic

I thought this at first but then when you think about it most gay males played with Barbie's at some point in their childhood or wanted to but were too afraid/didn't realise they could, so this ad is kinda aimed at girly boys anyway. I think the company probably know they will find it hard to market to young boys anyway so this is the easier route for them.

How adorable is that little boy though?

This is false id say there are more gay men who grew up without playing with girls toys.

That advert just adds onto the whole idea that little boys who play with dolls are/will be gay imo, they should have used a more.. for lack of a better word, 'normal' kid.
