Alesha Dixonwas slammed by tweeters after she labelled black singing quartet Vox Fortura as 'four sexy, chocolate men'.

Outraged fans called the comment made during the live show racially insensitive.

Viewers flocked to Twitter to accuse the singer of racism, with many suggesting if any other of the judges used the term they would be lambasted. The reaction was so intense that her name trended on the site.

Now not sure if black people can be racist about black people but then her mum is white so its a bit of grey area - i personally find her over the top support of any "act of colour" a little annoying but what do you think?

Niamh. 26-05-2016 09:19 AM

I see all the tweets are from white people, why do they care, do they want to be allowed call black people chocolate people? idgi

Strictly Jake 26-05-2016 09:21 AM

It did take me back a bit because I'm suprised she said it but people are going a bit over the top. Plus about the buzzer thing I think David pressed his own and blamed alesha, and he told her to press Amanda's so David should be getting as much stick as alesha, I love them both though, they add so much to the show

Lostie! 26-05-2016 09:28 AM

I was more bothered by her being a knob and pressing David and Amanda's buzzers. :idc:

(And if David was in on it then he's a knob too :idc:)

Livia 26-05-2016 09:30 AM

Alesha is an arse.

I guess because because they feel they have to be so careful and are under so much racial scrutiny being white?

Crimson Dynamo 26-05-2016 09:36 AM

also because twitter is just people shouting at the tv

Most of those comments seem to either be saying 'is that allowed?' or 'what if a white person said it?'... I think people are just confused about whether or not they should be outraged, rather than them actually being outraged. It's all pretty stupid really imo, there was nothing racist about it at all.

You don't have to be that careful tbf, I've never almost said chocolate people and then thought "whoops not allowed say that" have you?

You've hit the nail on the head here :clap1:

It's the same with the N word. Although I am against the use of it by anyone, the argument from white people saying black people shouldn't be allowed to say it is simply "we're not allowed to say it so why should they be!!!"

At the end of the day black people call each other chocolate quite often in a joking way - heck, I even remember Dawn French telling a black contestant on Jesus Christ Superstar search that he had a "chocolatey voice" in a joking way and no one cared. Same with Sharon Osbourne telling someone that on The X Factor. Quite frankly white people seem to be more offended by it then black people. Even the people in this thread complaining about her comments are white members.

I agree, she was being so unprofessional there, and it distracted all the attention away from the act. Silly cow.

The tweets inevitable are from young people but i would wager that whilst they have been taught that racism is wrong and here are a current list of words you cannot use at the moment (subject to change) but they have never been taught or discussed the fact that black people can say use the word n+gger or chocolate and so when they hear it they think its unfair

I mean where is the line drawn - alesha's mum is white but not her dad so its ok but if your parents are white but one grandparent is black then what? What if you are Sri Lankan can you you say it of Fijian? etc. How black do you have to be?

Niamh. 26-05-2016 10:31 AM

Oh fgs, that is a really stupid thing to worry about LT, why would any person waste their time even thinking about stuff like that, really? It smacks of Oh us poor white people are the victims now or some s**t

This is the problem, people over-thinking it. Maybe trying to look too hard for if they should be offended or not. Racism is pretty obvious when it happens so the fact that all the offended people don't seem entirely certain on what they're offended about kind of shows that there's not really anything to be offended about.

because twitter lets you hear what people are thinking as they watch telly

Crimson Dynamo 26-05-2016 11:05 AM

If walliams had said it would it be bad?

Does it have any racist overtones at all regardless of what colour the person saying it is

its surely all about context?

I don't see the need to mention skin colour or race of any description on the show. By anybody.
