I feel so bad for these people, some of the photos that have been emerging from Syria the last week are so scary. We don't know how lucky we are to have been born this side of the world. And you can be sure if we weren't we'd be doing what we could to find a safer place for our families too

This x100

These people are scared for their lives, their childrens lives, have witnessed horrifying violence and so on, and for the general attitude to be 'just **** off to Syria or whatever..its heartbreaking really. I can guarantee EVERY one of us (by us I mean people living in the UK) would be doing whatever possible to get the hell out of here if we were unlucky enough to end up in the same situation as these people were in.

Exactly, I get why people are scared of refugees, but our fear is nothing compared to theirs, their country has been totally torn apart, and they have nowhere else left to go.

No actually i was thinking more putting them in the refugee camps so they can come to Europe legally.

How many safe countries d'you reckon they passed through to get here?
They must get Benefits Britain on TV over there.

You know if they'd stayed in Turkey,Greece,Germany,France or whatever other countries they passed through they probably would'nt have been caught.

Once they start leaving the first safe country they find in search of money they are economic migrants.

that is true up to a point. There are however genuine cases where they have family members living in countries that are not the first entered, so its not always black and white. It is only illegals that try and enter the country via the back door, no one else has a reason to do that.

A huge part of the problem is also that (thanks to Empire!) many coming from Syria will already speak functional English, but are highly unlikely to know any other major European language. I can completely understand why they would be trying to get to countries where they will actually be able to function / find work / have any idea of what is going on around them.

This is an issue that native English speakers will never truly encounter in the world. No matter where you go in the world, you'll have easy access to English translations or be able to quickly find someone who speaks your language.

I do understand this too. I kinda feel though, maybe they fear violence in less 'tolerant' countries also. Turkey and such aren't that much safer than Spain, and I would think with what they have gone through..they are wanting to settle somewhere they know is safe. or something.

Either way I can't get with the 'send em back' attitude as I feel a lot of empathy for these people.

Though I do totally understand where people are coming from with the fear of attack from terrorists posing as refugees stuff too.

I think referring to these young men as "brown" would tend to suggest that you may need to look in the mirror to see a real racist

If you didn't catch the blatant sarcasm in my post, that's not my problem mate

It is totally understandable to flee a war torn country to find safety for you and your family. No ones is arguing that fact at all. The issue is that as soon as they enter the first safe country they don't want to stay there. Instead they continue to pass through safe country after safe country, many many countries in fact with one goal in mind... to get to Great Britain. And you would have to be blind not to see why they do that and it is foolish to think that this is acceptable.

Yes its like if there was a war in the UK and a truck load of lads ended up in Syria saying they are fleeing war - the locals would be like "aye right, f right off back to where you came from"
