Attention seekers

I was bored so thought i would make this.

What do you think of Attention seekers?

Lauren 29-03-2007 10:33 PM

Depends what kind.

People who change their style, or their opinions just to gain attention or fit into a group - I don't think much of them. They can do what they want but ultimately they're just gonna be unhappy.

Some people are attention seekers because of other things, maybe they're upset about something. They just need help.

People who argue for absolutely no reason apart from to make a name for themselves - :bored: They're a bit ****.

Dan_ 29-03-2007 10:51 PM

To be honest I find them a little bit sad, the fact they feel the need to do something to continually get noticed however trivial it might be shows to me they have something slightly wrong with them and must feel unwanted in some respect.

Mrluvaluva 29-03-2007 11:01 PM

Who's attention seeking? lol. I'm confused?

I had a friend who was the biggest attention seeker.. complete pain in the ass!

I dont have the time or patience for them

I've had to put up with quite a few, and I'm at the stage now where I can't anymore. A lot of them simply are because they want to feel cared for and loved, and sometimes lie for attention etc. You get to the point where you just ignore it. And now I've found that I don't let it affect me and really don't bother or pay attention to the attention seekers.

Siouxsie 30-03-2007 11:54 AM

I work in a class full of attention seeking kids and it drives me nuts sometimes. :mad:There are the naughty attention seekers and the ignorant attention seekers and the eek !!:yuk: slaverry kids they do my head in. :eureka:

Do you think that is the best way to deal with attention seekers Ash? Just to ignore them?

Sophii3x 30-03-2007 12:12 PM

There are different types. There are some who show off and some who just want to be cared and loved for.

Also it annoys me when people label people who cut themselves and make themselves sick, attection seekers. Maybe some do it for attention, but most don't. There's the whole emotional side to it, and until you go through it you can't really judge.

Well, I said it gets to the point where you just ignore it.
And it's worked for me thus far!

Mrluvaluva 30-03-2007 12:29 PM

That's true Soph.

It's like you said though, "Maybe some do it for attention". Some people obviously do, and it is a cry for help that something is wrong in their lives. These kind of people need reassurance and help.

There are many different kinds of attention seekers though.

Like Lozzy pants said (lol), there are "People who change their style, or their opinions just to gain attention or fit into a group". It's sad to think that people would want to change themselves to try and fit in. That's just false. You are who you are, and if people don't like you for it, then they are not worth having as a friend. There is always someone out there who will like you for being you.

Another form of attention seeker, is one that may be quite loud and outlandish. They will go to pains to get themselves noticed. That can be quite offputting to the recipient or bystanders.

Also, when breakups happen for instance. Say a couple have been married for 20 years and are going through a separation. The wife wants to leave, but the husband still loves her (or maybe thinks he does). He may do things to bring attention to himself, by threatening things, say, that he might not intend to do and would never go through with, but primarily to make his wife stay. Say she stays with him out of guilt? That is no marriage is it. It's living a lie. It's wrong and unacceptable.

People still do it though.

People come on this forum and post crap to get attention. The world is made up of allsorts.

What I am trying to say, is sometimes people seek attention to better situations, and sometimes not. Quite the opposite infact.

Haha, Lozzy Pants.

Errmm anyway, what was I about to say.... uhrm.... Oh yeah.

Sue, why do some of the kids in your class slaver? :laugh2:

nodisharmony 30-03-2007 04:08 PM

"Attention seekers" is usually labelled to children.

Many times when a five year old boy suddenly has a sister or brother come into the world and the attention slides towards the baby boy or girl and the five year old gets jealous and does something bad, just to get attention.

It stems from jealousy really!

Lol i didn't mean it like that, he was asking how many people were online not how many attention seekers were on

You can still be an adult and be an attention seeker! People who actively go out just to harpe onabout themselves really get my goat!

I have no time for people who are Me, Me Me, Me, Me!!!!

There comes a time in everyones lives when either you cut attention seekers out of your life or get cut out because your the attention seeker.

Hee hee..... finally get online.

And nobody springs to mind

lily. 30-03-2007 04:36 PM

haha.. anyway, going back to the topic.

I find as a parent, that the best thing to do with attention seeking behaviour is ignore it. I've gone through all the various stages with my kids from babies to toddlers to brats.. .. and it's something you learn very early on to recognise.

Any parent will tell you that they know the difference between their baby's cry. Whether it's a cry for something (food, changed etc.), or a cry for nothing (just attention basically). And, it's true. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of going to my first child when she cried for attention, thus spoiling her with hugs.. resulting in me getting no sleep for approximately 2 years.. You live and learn!!!
