The liberal London bubble. How far out of touch is London with the rest of the UK?

smudgie 13-04-2017 02:55 PM

It wasn't in London's name...it was in UK's name.

Livia 13-04-2017 03:12 PM

More people live in London than live in Scotland and Wales combined. Some of the poorest people in the country live in London, as well as some of the richest. It would be hard to lump them all together and make out they're all out of touch.

Northern Monkey 13-04-2017 03:14 PM

Yeah i think it's talking about the liberal left in London,Which i think is the majority. Not everyone who lives in London.

The liberal left is not the majority. The hard-working, commuting into the city every day, trying to get on with their life is the norm. Just like in any other big city. The liberals are there for our amusement... Good bless 'em.

Odd that "liberal" has become such a dirty word. I would consider myself leaning towards Liberal

I think the way the word liberal is used online now is an Americanised use tbh.The Americans always use the terms "liberal and conservative" to describe the political ideologies.I.E the left and right.Whereas we just say "Labour and Conservative" or "Left and right"

Our Political parties over here don't seem to be split in a left/right, Labour/Conservative type way. Well, they are only the smaller parties I think, the main ones seem to be centre-ish....but the 2 main parties may as well be the same one as far as I'm concerned

Yeah you are probably right.I think as an outsider it seems as though the lefties are in the majority because they are the most vocal.

Perhaps you mean "the most written about and demonised in the right wing gutter trash press" ...

I mean, why blame elitism, the establishment, the political class or those working in the out of control finance sector for anything when you can simply blame everything on gays and vegans? It makes matters much simpler... best to stick with that.

That's because, unless we are 'Far Right' or 'Far Left', we are all liberal to a degree.

Calling someone liberal in the UK is a catch all term, liberalism can support economic inequality or be a social justice warrior but the one thing all liberal thinkers value is democracy, individual liberty and civil liberties.

A Liberal American political party is not the same thing as individual liberal thinkers, just as our neo-liberal British government is not the same as liberal leaning people... Its an oxymoron.

it is non existent between genders...sadly not between abe and disabled which is rarely discussed or massive regional disparity
but the disabled and areas of poverty are always drowned out by demands of biased feminists

You seem a bit out of touch with the UK too.

This thread has done very little to prove the title of the vid correct, if anything the thread suggests the opposite so far.

The OTT politically correct ruined it like they ruin so many other things. Most people have a social conscience and care about those in hardship but there is a llmit and the extreme lefties have pushed people over that edge of tolerance.

Well, like feminism, I'm still going to use the word for what it's supposed to mean and say I am both a feminist and more liberal leaning in the truest meanings of those words

Tom4784 14-04-2017 12:23 PM

The whole thing about 'liberal' becoming a 'dirty' word is just the last ditch effort of what is a slowly dying political philosophy grasping for relevance. Each generation becomes more and more liberal, the conservative mindset will likely die off in the generations to come.
