Anne Hegerty: An Aspergers Help or Hinderance?

Do you think she has helped or hindered the Asperger's cause (if that is a thing)

ie: her actions in the jungle, will viewers have a more positive view of the condition or a negative one? (please show your workings)

I would perhaps stop looking at individuals as reflective of an entire demographic. The idea of there being an "Aspergers cause" rather than taking people with Aspergers to be completely different from each other is just... reductive.

Matthew. 04-12-2018 04:00 PM

or maybe she could just be a person who happens to have Asperger’s who does not need to be defined by it?

montblanc 04-12-2018 04:02 PM

if someone judges an entire demographic of people based on a reality show then :skull:

As someone who admitted you know sweet FA about aspergers/autism, you have no grounds to base this on.

She has set the autism cause back 50 years IMO. She has convinced viewers that people with autism are quitters who are too lazy to get out of bed.

You're basing this purely on your own opinions on her having both admitted you know sweet fanny adams about aspergers.

Also, there is a lot of evidence online (if you actually take the time to look instead of just basing your opinions on ignorance) that shows that she has encouraged a lot of people with aspergers and shown them that anything is possible for them, for example, the widely publicised little boy who wrote her a letter.

Rob, anything is possible? are you having a laugh, and that little boy should not be watching an adult show as has been stated

No, little children need sleep to help them grow and fight disease and should not be watching Harry Rednapp tell Emily she has had a lot worse in her knickers than a cricket

Take that up with the kids parents then, it has nothing to do with Anne. And I’m a Celeb is a family show anyway. What has happened over the course of the series that has been unsuitable for the under 10s?

I know. It's such a shame how once something has aired it's gone, if you miss it, you miss it.

If only there was a method people use to watch TV shows that they can't watch at the time it airs!!

its a 1.5 hour show so i am not sure, with school, when a 10 year old boy is watching and being inspired by Anne giving up on the odd trial she can do?

It’s not just about the trials, it’s to do with the being completely outside of the comfort zone that is a huge issue for people with Aspergers.
