Cheryl: "I may NEVER release another album"

Quote:

CHERYL has revealed that she may never release another album after her comeback single Love Made Me Do It flopped in the charts.

The 35-year-old star admitted that times have changed, and the days of going to the shops to buy an album are behind us.

Speaking to The Metro, the mother-of-one said that she missed the old days as she explained: "No one is buying an album.

"I'm making myself sound old now, but you'd go to HMV and buy album of the month and cherish it and play it over and over and over.

"But now you can play any song any time on your Spotify playlist, and I love that - but I miss the old: 'let's buy the album'."

The star added that she would only release an album if she has "a body of work" - but reassured fans that she won't stop writing or recording.

Cheryl continued: "I don't stop writing, I can still continue and release - that's the beauty of what's happening in the music industry, you can release what you want when you want."

Although she has no plans to release a full album, the former X Factor judge did tell the publication that she plans to "release enough music to be an album but not in one go, only single by single".

Cheryl launched her much anticipated return to the public eye last year, releasing her first single in almost four years, Love Made Me Do It, in November.

The track sold just 5,000 copies in its first week and was at number 48 by its second.

The star was also slammed when she performed the single live on The X Factor - with viewers panning her raunchy routine.

As well as questioning Cheryl's vocals, fans were confused when Cheryl licked her hand and writhed around the floor as part of her performance.

The brunette beauty hit back at the critics days later - insisting that she had watched the performance back and "loved it".

I'm sure her music (with airquotes around both the words "her" and "music") has its fans, but I doubt a lack of Cheryl Cole albums from now will be too upsetting.

I doubt she reads ! certainly can't sing or speak properly . Large rock required for it to hide under - biggest fraud in years.

Her blaming her lack of success on the industry and people not buying albums :skull:

I can’t really imagine her in the current Spotify climate so I can understand if she feels the industry doesn’t have a place for her anymore. Reminds me of Brandy’s ‘Should I Go’ track from the Afrodisiac album where she sings about similar feelings of alienation sung over a Coldplay beat.

It used to be a few artists at a time
Now, even the veterans wait in line
Pre-mature release of these albums online
Making it hard for real entertainers to shine
If you manage to defeat all these odds against you
Keep doing your thing 'cause I'm not mad at you
Just trying to figure out where I fit into
All of this now, or if I do
Should I go?
Should I stay?
I'm in control either way
Should I go?
Should I stay?
I'm in control either way

I saw her do it on X Factor and also on Graham Norton and it was absolutely horrible both times so...

Although on the plus side, the dance routine was hilarious.

Locals who only listen to random songs as opposed to putting in the effort to digest an album as a body of work are tossers. Albums are delicious

joeysteele 13-01-2019 08:29 PM

Thank all powers that be for that.

Hmmmmm I don't entirely buy it to be honest, there are many artists "of other eras" who still sell albums and sell out stadium tours (often with numbers that your average trending-on-spotify single could never). I think the difference is that they have to be good, have a unique sound, or something unique to say. Cheryl was never any of those things and only sold music because she had "celebrity", which is fleeting. I guess that's a tough thing to have to swallow.
