The Weeknd Is The Super Bowl Half Time Performer

Early announcement for some reason, but **** it. Abel’s status in the scene keeps growing.

Blinding Lights is really going to have a second lifespan as if the current one hasn’t been long enough

I saw that earlier. Don’t think anyone takes her that seriously.

He’s just had a year where he’s had the longest running top 5(and 10) hit in history and looks like the hot favourite to win the Album,Song and Record Grammys. It’s foolish of her to think it’s a sexism issue that he’s not having to share the stage.

Pepsi Will Cut Super Bowl Ads For Flagship Soda to Focus on Halftime Show
Pepsi won’t sit out the Super Bowl, but some of its commercials will.
The beverage giant, one of the biggest and most reliable sponsors of the annual football extravaganza, is benching traditional Super Bowl ads for its flagship soda. Instead, says Todd Kaplan, Pepsi’s vice president of marketing, “we are going to double down on our existing 12 minutes in the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show in the middle of the Super Bowl, and we are going to build it out like we have never built it out before.”
The halftime show will star The Weeknd, and Pepsi on Saturday will launch a new campaign to call attention to the performance – the first time the musician at the center of the event has taken part in a Pepsi ad campaign in advance of the effort. CBS is scheduled to telecast Super Bowl LV on February 7.

Great songs though ... I’m thinking the song writing is his strength rather than the LIVE singing .

I’m guessing he only agreed to do the Super Bowl because of the kudos and to raise his profile just as he releases his Best Of album ..

Sound engineer was on drugs last night

**** it. Abel still put on a show regarding the circumstances.

The visuals were spectacular. The vocals? A bit of a mixed bag. He definitely sounds better when he’s hitting higher notes and Blinding Lights sounded good.

Yeah he reminds me a little of Will.I.am
In that they’re both great songwriters but maybe not great singers ( LIVE)..

Agree with this. BL was the definite highlight of the whole thing. His microphone was way too quiet for the majority though, particularly at the beginning...

Hey, I’m just glad we got to watch a little live concert with an actual audience and no hint of COVID. Was a lovely change. AND he did it for free and funded it with a million of his own money just so that we actually HAD a halftime show.

He did fine, certainly isn’t anywhere near one of the worst but definitely not the best.

Brother Leon 08-02-2021 02:04 PM

He can definitely sing live. There’s no doubt about that. He’s just always been introverted as hell and never been a natural entertainer or performer. Don’t think anyone should have been expecting him to buss out moves like Beyoncé etc, but that’s what most of the people who didn’t enjoy it seem to be picking on

That said, I think even the best of performers would have struggled putting on a show infront of a half empty stadium, while trying to follow safety guidelines and having no actual stage on the central field or guests.

The sound is much better on the YouTube video at least, so it’s just the awkward MJ moves that he loves to try do that brings it down abit
