The new sandwich, costing £4.39,
features two crispy Chicken Selects topped
with a spicy jerk sauce, bacon,
pepper jack cheese, onion
and lettuce in a sourdough bun.

The burger's jerk sauce contains
tomato paste, Habanero chilli puree,
caramelised sugar syrup, spices,
garlic, ginger and basil,
according to the McDonald's website.

[The ingredients in a real jerk marinade
are allspice - a dried unripe berry
of the South American native plant
Pimenta dioica - and Scotch bonnet peppers.]

Any of you tried this new £4:39
Jerk?

I mean they have been doing it for years but now people are only coming out the woodwork to complain? Their main issue should be it tastes nothing like Jerk Sauce

Oliver_W 26-11-2020 01:58 PM

Lol at people thinking "cultural appropriation" is actually a thing, or something to be taken seriously or moaned about.

Anyone can make or sell anything they want, it's fine.

Nothing wrong with appreciating and enjoying things from other places.

Swan 26-11-2020 02:00 PM

No one in their right mind would care about this. It's just another gimmick burger, McDonalds does this all the time.

Cultural appropriation is a thing, you just don't understand what it is.

This really isn't an example of appropriation but to make out that it doesn't exist is just ignorant.

Is there any point when you obviously find it a joke because you don't believe it exists? You're perfectly entitled to ignorance, it's not down to me to educate you.

If you want an example though, look at the Kardashians, they built their wealth by appropriating both black and gay culture and then often tried to copywrite it as their own afterwards.

they're living trash but why shouldn't they use black or gay "culture" to make money? It doesn't specifically belong to anyone which is why they shouldn't try to copyright it, but no-one else own the rights to it, and if they want to use aspects of it to make money, then good for them.

I remember people pitched a bitchfit because one of the interchangeable Kardashians had dreadlocks or braids or something :joker: same with Beiber.

Like I've literally never heard a reason that people shouldn't use things from different cultures. It doesn't stop anyone else from being able to use them.

Well it does belong to people

You're not getting it, or more specifically, you don't want to understand it because you don't want to accept it as legitimate thing.

You cannot copywrite what isn't yours', it's quite simple really.

I agree, they shouldn't copyright it because it isn't theirs, it's everybody's.

Yup - all people, everywhere. Anyone who wants it.

You're still not getting it, and I don't think there's nothing I can say that will make you understand either, simply because you don't want to. You are perfectly entitled to be wrong and I'm just gonna leave it at that.

So your saying a Kimono which has been a Japanese clothing garment for centuries also belongs to Britain because a few people wanted to be edgy and get them and use them for what its not meant to be used for ?

There's not much to "get", you've not reallg said why people shouldn't use things from other cultures?

A Kimona is for special occasions such as weddings and parties not to be used when your feeling cold and want to wrap up its rude and ignorant and very disrespectful to Japanese culture

Using a ridiculous accusation of cultural appropriation as evidence of it "not existing" is like using a bad example of racism as evidence racism doesn't exist.

Simply wearing a kimono in of itself isn't cultural appropriation. Sharing Japanese customs and traditions is actually a big part of Japanese culture, as long as you aren't being disrespectful, most japanese people are glad to share their culture with anyone who wants to partake.

Cultural appropriation is a more complex thing than just wearing clothes, it's about intent and more.

I could explain for hours, but you'd just reject it because you can't see beyond your own privilege, and I'm not wasting time on a fruitless endeavor.

You don't want to believe that it's a thing and you're perfectly entitled to that ignorance. You can try to misrepresent what it is all you want but it won't change that it's not what you think it is.
