The Astra Zeneca vaccine is safe.

The European Union's medicines agency has said the Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine is "safe and effective" to use following an investigation into reports of blood clots in a small number of recipients.

The decision by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) comes after more than a dozen European countries - including Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, France and Sweden - halted the vaccine's rollout over fears regarding the claims.

The EMA said the benefits outweigh the risks - and the vaccine is not linked to an overall risk of blood clots.

If you give a thousand people a glass of water each, a handful of them would probably manage to drown themselves.

The Oxford vaccine may or may not have caused blot clots in a few randos, but I'm glad it's not being seen as the norm.

Good news though

The Problem is so many in the EU
will not use AZ.

French Macron is at Fault, as well.

The EMA never said anything else, its individual countries who wont use it, and I think they have seeded distrust in the vaccine so I wouldn’t blame their citizens for not taking it

Vicky. 18-03-2021 03:25 PM

Was all a bit daft anyway. As I said in the other thread, so many people in the UK had it, and the sheer numbers would have showed a marked increase in clotting..surely.

The initial problem with it came from Norway who aren't even in the EU.

Vicky. 18-03-2021 03:28 PM

I don't really see a problem if some keep saying they wont give/have it. Theres a few around now, and they all seem to be about as effective as each other

Its their choice, go without if thats how they feel. There was never any problem in the 1st place. If they prefer the hospitals overun and virus running amok its up to them.

arista 18-03-2021 03:29 PM

As soon ITV News asked a question
BBCnewsHD cut the sound went to the studio.

Thats why SkyNewsHD is best

I don't see a problem with double checking any possible issues with vaccines that have been rolled out so quickly

bots 18-03-2021 03:30 PM

if the eu don't use it, it is more supply for us

They have loads of the stuff though lying unused so hand it on elsewhere

Its only two weeks ago Italy blocked a shipment bound for Aus saying they needed it, and Germans wont take it so

Definitely agree with this.

Wasting it is just spite really

Glad that this has been confirmed but the unfair reputational damage to this jab has been immense. There was a graph on Peston last night showing something like only 25% of people in France had confidence in this vaccine and that's just as lots of countries in Europe are starting to see cases and deaths skyrocket again

Nicky91 18-03-2021 03:39 PM

how can they call it safe, i don't trust the EMA anymore

yeah I think the damage was done initially by Macron and its just gone on from there, so they really should withdraw from countries in Europe as it isn't fair to expect their citizens to take it now

They will have done extensive testing Nicky. If they are saying its safe then you may have confidence that it is indeed.

Niamh. 18-03-2021 04:03 PM

They're talking about it here on the radio now, looks like we'll be using it again soon
