MUM partied while her baby Starved to death (UK)

Verphy Kudi's daughter Asiah Kudi died at an address in Brighton in December
2019 after being left alone for six days with no food or water. The mother, now
19, was seen on CCTV leaving the home on her birthday before attending
parties in London, Coventry and Solihull. A post-mortem examination and
forensic tests found that Asiah starved, was dehydrated and developed flu. Her
cause of death was given as neglect. The baby was under a child protection
plan but there was no social worker assigned when she died. Today, Kudi (left)
appeared in court to enter a guilty plea to manslaughter. Kudi is seen with
Asiah (middle); while Asiah is also seen (right).

Manslaughter? How was that not premeditated, I presume she knew babies need food and water to survive? Awful

AnnieK 26-03-2021 02:00 PM

Shameful and sounds like the baby was also failed by social services.....again

Ammi 26-03-2021 02:30 PM

...I don’t know what to say really, this is horrifying and so terribly sad ...

....a child protection plan was in place so they knew this was a severe situation but there was no social worker assigned to the case...?...for 6 days no one checked up on the family/no one visited the home...

...what that baby would have suffered in starving and dehydrating to death...I mean it’s unimaginable, jeez....

I guess from a legal standpoint they couldn't prove she wanted the baby to die (as murder requires intent), so it had to be entered as manslaughter... but yeah, all common sense points towards the knowledge that leaving her for 6 days would, at best, end badly.

Incredibly callous and senseless... and now she has an entire life of living with that shame and people knowing what she really is.

I can't help but wonder if there were neighbours who could hear a baby crying/screaming, but didn't do anything because they just assumed that's what babies do all the time :( how awful they must be feeling, if there indeed were neighbours.

...yeah she has admitted to causing her daughter’s death but the law will say that a plea of manslaughter can be submitted and I presume that’s what her defence have done...I don’t know what the sentencing will be ...the judge apparently wants to see all social service and care records before deciding, to see what help they were both getting...

rusticgal 26-03-2021 02:50 PM

Shame on her.

Cherie 26-03-2021 02:59 PM

I suppose after a while the baby would have been too tired and drained to cry anyway, horrible to even think about that

She murdered that poor baby.

...I would say that especially as it appears the baby may have been subjected to ongoing neglect...a baby would learn to ‘not cry’ also because crying may never or rarely have brought any comfort ...it’s all too, too sad...

This really leaves me lost for words ! I would lock the evil cow up for life.

Well since councils stopped giving young pregnant girls flats the birth rate has dropped like a stone ~ girls got pregnant to leave home and get own place, and no fathers on scene cos most do a runner making babies does not include supporting them ~ mostly.

There is a worldwide drop in birth rates.

It will only get worse as young people become afraid of approaching eachother, if things keep up like this.

Kazanne 26-03-2021 05:47 PM

No excuse for this piece of crap, but she will get a slap on the wrist as someone will find something or someone else to blame ,that poor little baby, may she rest in peace.

A teen mother who allowed her daughter to starve to death while she partied in London and Coventry for six days has been jailed for nine years.

Verphy Kudi went to a 1990s music concert in Elephant and Castle and even had a DJ announce her 18th birthday during her days-long jaunt away from home, a court heard.

All the while, her 20-month-old daughter Asiah was alone in her flat in Brighton more than 50 miles away.

Asiah tragically died from influenza and starvation after having been left unattended in the flat for days on end.

When Kudi returned home and called 999 to say her baby was not waking up, paramedics found the mother “incoherent, distressed and distraught” and her daughter lying on the floor.

Kudi, now 19, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in March, and was jailed at Lewes Crown Court on Friday for nine years.

Wearing a black jacket and a face mask, Kudi bowed her head as details of the final days of her daughter’s life were read out in the courtroom.

Prosecutor Sally Howes QC said CCTV covering Kudi’s home showed that she had left Asiah alone in the flat for five days, 21 hours and 58 minutes.

[Sentencing Kudi, Judge Christine Laing QC said:
"Asiah was alone in that flat for six days - less two hours - unable
to do anything to draw attention to her plight.
"She was a helpless child and relied completely on you
as her mother to provide for her needs.

6 days leaving her baby (20months old) alone at home
Evil.

She was shocked with the 9 year sentence

"It is almost unbearable to contemplate her suffering in the final days of her life, suffering that she endured so that you could celebrate your birthday and the birthdays of your friends as a carefree teenager."

Cherie 06-08-2021 03:13 PM

6 days, that poor child, imagine how terrified she was

9 years is not enough
