[emoji28] she pronounces Caoimhe right as well, I hated the way Caoimhe that was on BB said it was Keeva rather than Queeva

Probably because she was from Dublin, they anglicise their pronunciations a bit imo :idc: Neeve wouldn't be how I'd say Niamh either is correct-ish but it's more like Nee-iv

SO you have taken a perfectly good name Dorean and smuggled in an i and an extra n

and to make matter worse you then pronounce it as if it was spelled Dirin

There was an animated movie I used to love as a kid, that was made by Americans but seemed to be based on Irish folklore.

One of th characters was "Princess Niamh" , pronounced Ny-arm ... Im guessing the filmmaker had and loved the book or whatever as a kid, and made the film when he grew up without encountering anyone who knew how to pronounce it, because America.

:bawling:

Niamh is from a story where Niamh cinn óir (Niamh with the golden hair) comes from a land called Tir na Nóg (Land of Youth) and she comes to Ireland on her big white horse and falls in love with Oisín (ush-een) and brings him back with her, he spends years there but wants to return to see Ireland again, Niamh tells him he can take her horse but he can't let his feet touch the ground while he's there. 300 years had passed in Irish time, while he's there he meets an old man who is struggling to move a big rock and he offers to help, he ends up falling off the horse while trying to push the rock and instantly turns old and dies .............and they all live happily ever after :umm2:

Sounds similar to the film I used to watch, but it had Niamh's father, the king, his shadow had come to life and taken over the kingdom.
