Name a/or some Movie Remakes you actually like/enjoyed?

Just watched The Taking of Pelham 123. I enjoyed it a lot.

Also watched, for the 2nd time years later, the Total Recall remake. I really enjoyed it the 2nd time round (after hating it for not being enough like the original).

The Thomas Crown Affair with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo is a really good remake.

I liked the Netflix version of Texas Chainsaw tbh. Not sure is a remake though.

:bored: That movie was the biggest pile of dumpster fire i'd ever seen, wasn't even filmed on location and the whole thing looked like a tv set . dreadful characters and terrible awful storyline. And the disrespect of bringing back 'Sally' just to make her a senile embarrassing mess.... was just insulting to the audience. It made a mockery of the memory of her , she was a classic final girl survivor who should have been left alone, especially since the original actress sadly died . So why bring her back just to make it end like that, after everything the character has been through.

Was ridiculous them replacing her with a random person. That's like Jaime Lee Curtis & Neve Campbell who we've all grown up watching and gotten to know through Halloween & Scream , to then be replaced with random actresses who the audience have no connection with..... to then play Laurie
& Sydney .

Texas Chainsaw Massacre's 00's Film.

The Hills Have Eyes

Black Christmas 00's Film

Japanese Anime wise Berserk's Golden Age Trilogy is a remake of the 1997 Berserk Anime TV Series if that can count?

The 1980's surreal musical remake of Little Shop of Horrors is an all time classic.

I really enjoyed the IT remake, remakes are mostly awful though especially when they take a movie that people loved originally(Point Break & Willy Wonka spring to mind) Why do that? Why not pick one that had good potential but weren't that good originally?

True, I can think of loads of Sci-fi movies where the concept was amazing, but the writing was sloppy/production was cheap. Remakes usually miss the mark completely.

Then again, Total Recall springs to mind here - yes, the effects are dated and the writing is cheesy but the whole thing was dull when remade. It turns out,w hat makes the original a classic IS the terrible special effects, cheesy Arnie dialogue, and late-80's Sci Fi aesthetic.

I guess that's what you're saying though - you can just take a well liked film, remake it and expect it to be good... because the "magic" that just happened to come together at the time isn't as simple as the plot or script.

Yeah, that's especially true for Point Break. They went big with the stunts etc in the remake but what actually made Point Break so loved originally was nothing to do with special effects or stunts, it was the cast and their relationships with each other. It had heart that the remake didn't have. And don't even get me started on the Willy Wonka remake

I really loved 12 Angry Men but the remake was equally as enjoyable imho

I'd say the "obvious ones" were the movies were broken down and rebuilt from the ground up - The Fly, The Thing (not the 2011 one obviously).

Yeah that's the remake, saw it waaay too young and it gave me nightmares for ages - I'd be eating something, and all my teeth would disintegrate :joker:

The original was a bit ...silly. The scientist and human swapped heads and hands, so there was a man running round with a giant fly head  here's the iconic (creepy!) ending:

I have the original on dvd. From 1930. 93 years old. It's actually not the oldest film I have on dvd. I have Charlie Chaplin's "The Kid" which is 102 years old. From 1921.
