Ed Sheeran copyright trial nicking Music of Marvin Gaye 1973

[Ed Sheeran copyright trial to begin over
Marvin Gaye hit Let's Get It On

Ed Sheeran has been the target for several
copyright lawsuits involving his work,
with the latest brought by the daughter of
Let's Get It On co-writer Ed Townsend.
]

It is not the Words
it is the Music Ed has Stolen.

[Jury selection and opening statements
will take place at the Manhattan
federal courtroom in front of
95-year-old District Judge Louis Stanton.

The jury will be asked to decide whether
parts of Let's Get It On, released in 1973,
were copied in the singer's 2014 number
one and Grammy-winning hit Thinking Out Loud.]

I have nothing personal against Ed Sheeran.

But it's clear as day imo that he rift the Music from Let's Get It On and put it into Thinking Out Loud.

Nice Relative of Ed Townsend on ABCnewsHD
speaks about Ed ripping off
Let's Get It On

Composed by Marvin Gaye & Ed Townsend.

I read somewhere that Ed Sheeran has had more plagiarism cases against him than any other artist in history . He’s supposedly for a powerful Legal team working 24/7 365

he wil never be found guilty, it opens up the flood gates to too many other cases

GiRTh 29-04-2023 06:08 PM

Sheeran and Dua Lipa have been sued many times.

I think in many of the cases the similarity is not enough but in the 'Lets get it on' case, its blatant.

He also nicked a song from TLC. He's at it all the time

I think the difference between the two as well is that Ed Sheeran wants to be seen as a credible singer-songwriter, where as Dua Lipa's doing the "Pop Princess" routine.

I'm not saying that she's bad at it tbf, but I think from a public perspective people are expecting less originality and overall talent from Dua Lipa versus Ed Sheeran who's credibility could be severely harmed if found guilty.

Hasn’t he already been found guilty / lost a few legal cases ?

Dua Lipa is a better 'artist' than Sheeran. His songs are quite lazy IMO. Where as her music is more original.

She’s fabulous indeed .. I can’t think of one poor song she’s done .. I think she only co- writes the songs but she’s a fabulous singer / performer and very likeable person from her interviews.

I’d say she’s the top female artist currently

I think it's the public perception that's different though.

We've got someone that's claiming to be a Singer-songwriter, has some vocal talent tbf, and can play the Guitar, some people will in the general public will be upset to find out that he may have oversold himself a little bit, if he is found guilty of course.

Where as Dua Lipa to her credit I think keeps her Music a bit more grounded, and just does what she's genuinely good at.

In the long run I agree with you that it'll make her the better artist.

like i said earlier, he won't be found guilty, there are too many other cases that would then be brought and it would collapse the music industry

Thing is he can afford the very best legal representatives .. bit like OJ or the premier footballers who regularly get off lightly due to excellent representation .

I seem to recall Alex Ferguson being successful in a dodgy case years back

it's not about legal representation, its about copyright law and what its possible to copyright and what's not possible. This falls into the realm of not suitable for copyright. The particular jury may in some extreme circumstance find him guilty, but it would be overturned on appeal because the case is fundamentally stupid

Why does he have a team of top notch lawyers then … he may as well represent himself

because people that can afford top lawyers always employ them

arista 03-05-2023 02:19 PM

Ed was stupid
as he performed his track and then started singing
"Lets's Get It On" on a Live stage.

Ch5HD AM showed the Full Live Video
and both tracks

So I can now see how the Family
of Co Writer Ed Townsend
are demanding he pays up.

Niamh. 03-05-2023 02:26 PM

i watched a video on this yesterday and the guy who made it played Van Morrison's Crazy Love and compared it to thinking out loud and it sounds much more similar than the Marvin Gaye track

bots 03-05-2023 02:27 PM

there is nothing new under the sun
