US women's soccer team SHAME

US women's soccer stars at World Cup opener remain mostly silent during
anthem as Vietnam players proudly sing theirs with hands over hearts

  • One critic claimed the 'ugly Americans' were 'showing their true colors'
  • Six of 11 US players stayed silent and did not put their hands over their hearts

Much of the US women's soccer team remained silent during the playing of
The Star-Spangled Banner at Friday's World Cup opener in New Zealand,
prompting critics to excoriate players over a perceived lack of patriotism.

'The ugly Americans once again showing their true colors,' one person wrote
on Twitter. 'They could learn a thing or two from the Vietnamese.'

'Absolute disgrace to the US!!' added another. 'Ban them and get players that
are proud to represent their country.'

But you're forgetting that criminals sometimes die when the police are trying to apprehend them :fist:

And yet in the US today a guy the coaching staff at DC Utd was sacked because he made an "okay" gesture in a coach team photo. Apparently some consider this to be racist.

And there was me hoping that Alex Morgan had been booked for taking her shirt off.:bawling:

Seriously though the players can do whatever they want to, just because you don't agree with them not singing the National Anthem doesn't mean that they should be booted out of the competition.

The last time I checked we were in a democracy, and long may it stay that way.

If a team is representing their country they need to do just that, it should not be political and your personal beliefs should be left at home

it really isn't a must to sing along to the national anthem, you aren't held at gunpoint you know, the only thing that is a must is breathe otherwise you die

does Max Verstappen sing along to our anthem, NOPE, is that a problem here, NOPE

most of our men's national team also don't sing along to the anthem, because most don't know the lyrics that well

US women’s team refuse to sing national anthem before World Cup draw with
Netherlands

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/...eg?imwidth=300

The US women’s national team has once again risked the ire of the American
public after more than half of the team refused to sing the national anthem
before their World Cup group game against the Netherlands in Wellington.

Later, in a game anticipated for months, in effect a repeat of the 2019 World
Cup final, the Dutch held the star-studded world champions to a 1-1 draw.

The silent “protest” was labelled “embarrassing” and “disrespectful” by one
prominent pundit in the States and also drew strong criticism on social
media, with some accusing members of the US women’s squad of failing to
be patriotic enough on the global stage.
