Rugby

Any, serious, rugby fans on here? Season starts tonight and I wondered if anyone is running a fantasy league on SUPERBRU that I can join?
I'm a season ticker holder at Bears.

I'm originally from St Helens, so Saints are my team, but I do now follow Wigan as well since I moved here.

I believe they are England's two most successful sides?

Grand final tomorrow

Wigan Warriors vs Catalans Dragon's from Old Trafford

Tough one to call. But I've said all year that Catalans are gonna win it. So I'm gonna stick with them.

The great Sam Tomkins in his final game against his old club.

Supporting Wigan, but it won't be an easy game.

Good luck to both sides, may the best on the day emerge victorious.

:conf: it's known as rugby league, as opposed to rugby union.

Your game didn't become professional until 1989. Rugby league was professional in the 19th century.

Your game is played by the posh boy office workers that drink shandy and our game is played by the working class butchers that drink jugs of bitter.

Your guys eat smoked salmon and our guys eat Pork pie.

Iceman 13-10-2023 04:50 PM

Could never get into rugby league. Tried watching the world cup (last year I think) but it was painful.

Sadly. They're isn't much money in the game. Only England could could compete with the Australasian countries at the moment.

In this country it's so hard to compete with football. That dominates. Then Cricket is also difficult to compete with nationally. Then we have to compete with Rugby Union. And with Rugby league being a predominantly Northern sport. Then we can't compete with them in the advertising arena.

In Sydney Australia. Rugby league is like football here. It's not only back page news but also front page news.

We're currently trying to slowly tap into the American market. I think the Americans would love it. Because it's not to dissimilar a game to American football. But far more brutal.

I suggest you visit Hull to watch a Hull Derby one time. You'll be amazed by what you witness. One of the great sporting events in the country you could attend.

:joker:

Admittedly the young farmers institution has a lot of impact on the game.

But that's mostly your university teams like heriot watt and Stewart's Melville. Your local teams like we have in the borders is pretty similar to the north of england league set up where local lads(electricians, joiners etc)play for local teams.

Inly difference during my growing up was the posh league boys having the cash to plunder our towns best roofers..like taity.

Crimson Dynamo 13-10-2023 06:35 PM
