Fair enough, they have they own rules.

The same bans have already been overturned by the courts in other states as being unconstitutional, they won’t last long

arista 21-10-2023 09:29 AM

It is their right to ban them.

Oliver_W 21-10-2023 09:32 AM

No drag at all? Because that's going too far.

fruit_cake 21-10-2023 09:36 AM

why are they doing that?

Well, they’d like to think so anyway, but it’s very clearly not as it goes against something they claim to unwaveringly support, the first amendment

In Private
no problem.

In Public - those 2 states say No.

They can perform in another state

It seems to be an (over)reaction to drag queens being inflicted on kids.

I'm not expecting you to have all the answers and this is a rhetorical question.. but where is a line drawn, because men like Donald Trump appear to me to wear just as much make up as a drag act, and his hair is certainly a story all of it's own

arista 21-10-2023 09:52 AM

Douglas Carter Beane
from America was not happy with Florida and Texas.

The ultimate goal for the republicans of these states trying to take gays rights away, is to eventually get the gay marriage rights overturned, it’s all a ploy to make lgbt people second class citizens again, hidden behind religion and guise of ‘protecting’ people that don’t need to be protected

Niamh. 21-10-2023 09:58 AM

Is there a link for that Arista?

presumably they think being gay is not innate to a persons character, and therefore by watching gay things it will somehow transpose itself into that person then also becoming gay...?

which makes them gay in the first place because sexuality may be fluid to an extent but overtly heteronormative society doesn't appear to make gay people straight.

and after all nothing breeds contempt like familiarity.

“to protect children and uphold public decency.”

Yes, they believe that simply knowing or seeing that lgbt people exist, it will force people, especially children, to choose to change their entire life trajectory to become lgbt, it’s built entirely on ignorance and prejudice

user104658 21-10-2023 02:47 PM

If blackface can be banned for offensive stereotyping then "womanface" can be banned for the same reasons.

That said - I'm very aware that the actual reasoning behind these bans is far from pro-woman, and that in fact, the essence of most homphobia is rooted in underlying misogyny ("to be gay = a man being woman-like = wrong", in their minds).

Not entirely, this is in effect exactly what is happening to many trans-identifying young girls [as in, biologically female transitioning to male] kids; there is an unquestionable element of social contagion, though it now seems to be waning.

I see little or zero evidence that this applies to sexuality though. Another unfortunate and unintended consequence of muddling sexuality up with gender ideology politics.

FWIW for me drag has little to do with either; it's not a gay man's right to create misogynistic caricatures of women by the virtue of it being "part of gay culture", any more than it would be OK for groups of women to get together and host competitons to see who can pretend to be the funniest stereotypical gay man.

Crimson Dynamo 21-10-2023 07:53 PM
