USA: Florida & Texas bans Drag
The Producer
Douglas Carter Beane Playwright & Director who made a Film in 1995 and is doing a Comedy Musical now, told bbc1AM about how it's a battle in the USA. No Drags in Florida or Texas Fair enough, they have they own rules. Sign Of The Times |
The same bans have already been overturned by the courts in other states as being unconstitutional, they won’t last long
|
It is their right to ban them.
|
No drag at all? Because that's going too far.

which makes them gay in the first place because sexuality may be fluid to an extent but overtly heteronormative society doesn't appear to make gay people straight. and after all nothing breeds contempt like familiarity. |
“to protect children and uphold public decency.”

If blackface can be banned for offensive stereotyping then "womanface" can be banned for the same reasons.
That said - I'm very aware that the actual reasoning behind these bans is far from pro-woman, and that in fact, the essence of most homphobia is rooted in underlying misogyny ("to be gay = a man being woman-like = wrong", in their minds). |

I see little or zero evidence that this applies to sexuality though. Another unfortunate and unintended consequence of muddling sexuality up with gender ideology politics. FWIW for me drag has little to do with either; it's not a gay man's right to create misogynistic caricatures of women by the virtue of it being "part of gay culture", any more than it would be OK for groups of women to get together and host competitons to see who can pretend to be the funniest stereotypical gay man. |
portraying women sex mad prostitutes?
so glad its now banned |
You cant ban drag, that's backwards and ridiculous.
