New Year's Eve

What's everyone up to tonight?

I was talking with a friend yesterday about how this was the night we used to be the most excited for. Tickets would have been bought months in advance for a club, before and after parties arranged and new clothes bought.

Tonight I'm at home doing nothing and looking forward to that too.....I'm getting old

bots 31-12-2023 07:37 AM

i will be having a whisky at the bells

Similarly, when I was a student, we used to have a week of continuous parties at new year

I feel like we might be in bed, it depends really how we feel later on whether we will venture out or not

Ammi 31-12-2023 08:32 AM

…I think then when we had children, the baby sitter became more expensive than the night out…?…so New Year Eve at home with friends round or at their home became the thing…

…I’ve never quite found that New Year was celebrated so much in these parts as in the more Northern parts of the country…

Ammi 31-12-2023 09:42 AM

…just to expand this out a bit… I hope that’s ok, Annie…/rather than post in another thread….

Unless you are drifting around in your superyacht around the International Date Line, the people that live on the Kiritimati atoll in Kiribati are the first to bring in the New Year - (2024 began at around 10am UK time…)…

There are 38 time zones at this time of year, so New Year’s Eve is celebrated at 38 different times.

Ammi 31-12-2023 09:43 AM

When India enters 2024, half of the world’s population is already into the New Year. This is because a lot of people live in Asia.

Ammi 31-12-2023 09:45 AM

About 25% of the world’s population will enter 2024 at the same time when the clock reaches midnight in China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Western Australia.

Ammi 31-12-2023 09:46 AM

26 hours after the first bottle of bubbly popped, Baker Island toasts the New Year. Kiritimati, Kiribati is already into the second day of the year before Baker Island leaves 2023.

Busy day.
I will be instructing hubby on the prep for tomorrow’s big Xmas dinner.
Daughter and partner will arrive early evening to pick up our granddog, depends on the traffic from Brighton what time that will be.
Hubby and I should get a few quiet hours before bed. Ready for tomorrow’s chaos.

Dont go out clubbing anymore in general since weve had kids and definitely not on new year's Eve. But usually I'll stay up late and watch whoever is on BBC1 like Sam Ryder was last year, watch the fireworks and then go to bed. However I can't even do that this year as it's bloody Rick Astley!! Who made that decision?? He had ONE good song and that was back in the 80s! Stupid choice. I was hoping for Tom Grennan

Strictly Jake 31-12-2023 12:12 PM

Also I've had this for a number of years now and I read on Instagram a post about it and discovered I'm not the only one. So who else has this

Do you know that Sunday Scares feeling you get before another week at work. Which can sometimes be worse if you have been off on holiday perhaps so you have the holiday blues on top of it. New year's eve feels like that to me. It's literally just another day starting. But the fact of it's a whole new year starting I really don't like the feeling. It makes me feel anxious and I don't know why.

Ammi 31-12-2023 12:29 PM

…New Zealand….

Gusto Brunt 31-12-2023 12:41 PM

A first foot has been promised at 12.03am. ;)

I am staying in for the first time ever and actually very much looking forward to it. Every year I get bladdered NYE and feel like death the next day so I thought it would be a nice novelty to wake up tomorrow with a clear head and actually enjoy NYD for once. Start the year off right and all that

I'm cooking a curry later then settling in for the NFL all evening. I'll have a couple of drinks tomorrow afternoon instead :smug:
