What's your view on celebrity crushes?
 

I was just watching a YouTube video from an account called CubeHub01, with the video called Fans That Went Too Far.

And the video was more about fans being obsessed with Celebrities, and how some of these fans interact with their favourite Celebrities.

But I want to just exclusively leave it at the attraction lane, as I think that half of the scenarios in the video that I watched, had that kind of thing going on where the fan in question was clearly into the Celebrity.

Now what's your thoughts on having a physical attraction to someone that you don't really know? Is it creepy to you when people find (say,) an Actor/Actress attractive, full stop? Or are you one of them that thinks it's completely okay to have an obsession with a Celebrity, and even hope for something more? Or do you see yourself as possibly having a more nuanced take on the situation?

For me personally I think that there's nothing wrong with fancying a Celebrity, as long as you have a healthy mindset, and know that realistically you have no chance with the Celeb in question, or to be generous you have a 5% chance at best for something more.

But as soon as you start thinking that you have the right to control a Celebrity's life, that's when it's gone too far in my view.

I think it's ok to have a crush on a celebrity but as you mentioned there is a point where it becomes dangerous. If the person becomes obsessed, the celebrity consumes their thoughts 24/7, they create fantasies in their head and start to believe it, in their head they have a parasocial relationship with the celeb. This is is extremely dangerous when the celebs actually engage with fans on a regular basis like on twitch or IG lives. And those that actually date fans well they are just creating problems for themselves because then every fan will believe they have a chance "if only". So like everything, too much of anything isn't great. A person needs to be able to differentiate between the entertainment and their real life.

"Finding someone attractive" or appreciating that someone is objectively good looking even if you don't personally "fancy them" is never creepy.

Obsession is always creepy. Celebrity, stranger or someone you know.

That's the simple truth of it IMO.

(You are of course allowed to be somewhat infatuated with your actual partner :hee: )

I don’t know about crushes but I think Eva green is extremely beautiful

But in general I love to be in the company of women.

Maybe crushes is the wrong term ?

Everyone will have a few people that they find irresistible ..

My beautiful wife has had a soft spot for Richard Gere for the last 40+ years since the Officer and a Gentleman movie and she still thinks he was dreamy in the Second Best Exotic hotel movies ..

Then again speaking as a bloke , there are some gorgeous women who I find unbelievably attractive due to their stunning looks aligned with great personalities - it makes them irresistible .

I’m thinking women like Cherlize Theron , Jennifer Lawrence or Annabelle Wallis ( Peaky Blinders and The Tudors)

But Zizu has kind of hit the nail on the head, on imo what should be a more healthy way of viewing attraction with a Celebrity.
