The wall
Dark side
Wish you were here

Did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

I never really gave The Wall a fair chance as I really didn’t like that damn single !

Let's be honest, they've only really got about 3 good songs.

Pretentious sods with their 3 hour songs.

They were the reason that punk started. Because the kids said, "what's all this nonsense? Let's reinvent rock music"

Led Zep were by far better than Floyd.

Ray. 31-05-2024 07:07 PM

No order:

Piper at the Gates of Dawn
The Wall
The Dark Side of the Moon

You can’t compare Floyd to Zep

Completely different

Well you can compare. Because when the question is asked "Who was the best rock band of the 1970s?" These are the two bands that will be mentioned the most.

Beso 31-05-2024 07:18 PM

3 if you count the who.

Not really a rock band. They ruled the disco genre in the 70s

Like the Rolling Stones, The Who will always come in the 60s bracket, because that was their commercial time.

But the Rolling Stones were by far the best rock band in the World in the 1970s.

Queen have also undergone a massive upswing in the intervening years and are far more likely to be mentioned alongside the other two than they were back in the day. They've undoubtedly more mainstream appeal, too. Especially among the youth of today, who I've noticed find it harder to get into the likes of Led Zeppelin. I don't think as much the case with Queen or Pink Floyd. Zeppelin are a band that I've always thought were more popular in the states than they were in Britain. The sales might not bear that out, I really don't know, but that's always the impression I got. Americans tend to deify British rock bands that they 'get' and elevate them through their popular culture in a way that we generally don't care to.

Also, I think the Rolling Stones were at their best with Brian Jones.

The Slim Reaper 31-05-2024 07:26 PM

@Zizu destroying @Alf in here with facts and logic

You stick to Drake and Taylor Swift and let the experts educate you about real music.

Queen were always decent, but they didn't make it to the very top of the tree until they stole the show at Live aid.

Stones were definitely at their best after Brian Jones. Jones is not in the same league as Mick Taylor or Ronnie Wood.

From 1968 to 1981 that was when the Stones were at their best. They were still decent in their early days. They were still good in the 80s and 90s. They still put on a great show today.

Beso 31-05-2024 07:39 PM

Believe it or not, the stones have played kelso town hall. Along with the kinks and many others.

In those days the top stars played everywhere. Not like the stars today who just play a few gigs at big arena's.

Buddy Holly, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones all played in a place that's a 10 minute walk from my house. It's a carpet warehouse now.
