England interim boss Lee Carsley's audition for the top job has been overshadowed after making the shock confession he does not intend to sing the national anthem.

Carsley will take charge of the national team against the Republic of *Ireland for the opening game of what is set to be a six-match trial in his efforts to become Gareth Southgate's full-time successor.

Was just checking if there was a thread on this before I made one.

Appalling. A really bad example to set. Reprimand him.

Editing this. Have rethought my replace him comment. I don't genuinely wish him to lose his job. Fair enough. I was wrong to hastily say that.

He isn't British, why would he? Also, its not compulsory

Which is his right as a free citizen

Nobody is saying its compulsory. Its respectful. I don't agree with either of these posts. It should go hand in hand with the job. Takes two minutes, and he has to stand there anyway?

Nicky91 07-09-2024 04:32 PM

managers don't have to sing along to the national anthems if they don't want to, certain players also don't sing along, those who do not know the lyrics that is

foreign managers i don't expect to sing along to the anthem like ever, that goes for every country which has a foreign coach

Nicky91 07-09-2024 04:33 PM

there are other ways for foreign managers to be loved as national team managers for other countries

like Queiroz is well loved in Iran for example

Brian Kerr is a cult icon in the Faroe Islands :D

Good point

Cherie 07-09-2024 04:46 PM

He says he has never sung the Anthem, i.e the Irish one when he played for Ireland and wont now, he is a football manager not a singer

Crimson Dynamo 07-09-2024 04:47 PM

Imagine lying as to why, what a wanker.

Don't talk bollocks

He was able to play due to an Irish grandmother

He is as English as they come

If you can point to Dublin on a map the Irish will snap you up to play for them

Ironically Declan Rice and Jack Grealish have made it 2-0 at half time

:joker:

Must be the luck of the Irish!

Liam- 07-09-2024 04:55 PM

It doesn’t matter what his nationality is, if someone doesn’t want to sing a song dedicated to an institution they fundamentally disagree with, he can’t be forced to and he shouldn’t be threatened with losing his job for choosing not to, his job is football, it’s got nothing to do with the royals

Garbage

bots 07-09-2024 05:00 PM

it's not garbage. I've never sung a national anthem, most people haven't

Liam- 07-09-2024 05:02 PM

Yes, let’s threaten peoples jobs because they don’t bend the knee to unelected benefit scroungers called the royals, that’s totally sane and representative of freedom

Nobody said he had to bend the knee? I wouldn't do that. But I would sing the national anthem.

The best sign in the crowd ...the snakes are back with a picture of the two turncoats

Vanessa 07-09-2024 05:21 PM

He should definitely sing the national anthem.
