I was rushed to hospital on Boxing Day

I was very VERY dizzy at 3pm. Couldn't stand up. It was like I was on a ship in stormy weather. The room was spinning.

VER scary. Called an ambulance.
.

I had VERY VERY HIGH blood sugar and blood pressure.

Docs found out I am Type 2 diabetic.:shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked:

Came as shock but I have been going to the loo a lot during the night recently.

Treatment is 4 tablets per day but no injections.

Out of hospital now and I will be celebrating New ear's Eve with a huge glass of WATER. :hee::shocked::shocked::shocked::joker:

oh dear, good they were able to diagnose you, you can reverse your diabetes through diet,

https://www.diabetes.org.uk/about-di...type-2-reverse

It is very much in your interest to control it as it can lead to all kinds of complications, affects your vision and some people need to have amputations

arista 28-12-2024 11:28 AM

Gusto glad the Doctors got you on safe meds.

Would they consider you to take the New Weight Loss Injection
under NHS care?
If you need it etc.

I was rushed to hospital on Boxing Day

Interesting

My brother in law was recently diagnosed as pre diabetic so he paid for a fitted on us a glucose monitor each

They are attached to your upper arm for two WEEKS … the probe / needle is in your bloodstream for the duration .

Anyways it turns out we are both slightly UNDER pre diabetic so whilst being reassuring on one hand it was a wake up call on the other

We are now both making a conscious effort wereto reduce / refuse sugar

( so reduced amounts of sugar in drinks and being aware that all carbohydrates like bread and potatoes change to sugar !)

Also the sugar in fruit is treated like processed sugar as are carbohydrates by the body

I’m new to all this so by all means correct any mistakes

Oh no, sorry to hear this Gusto. Hope you continue to feel better.

My dad was told he was pre diabetic years ago,his doctor sent him on a course and he was able to reverse it

He has just last month been diagnosed as diabetic, which is age onset and he controls with metformin.

I'm sorry to hear this as well. Must have been a frightening experience for you.

Take care xx

Omg I was like that last night, my head was swimming, I just went to bed for about 12 hours, I wonder was it because of all the sugary drink and food over the last week? :/

Hope you're feeling OK now Gusto

You could also be coming down with flu but maybe get a blood test in the New Year

thesheriff443 28-12-2024 12:49 PM

Life is full of surprises most of them you don’t want

Cherie 28-12-2024 01:01 PM

The biggest surprise is that you managed to get an ambulance on Boxing Day

Vanessa 28-12-2024 01:18 PM

Omg glad you're ok. Yes you can reverse it through diet changes.

True !

Plus type 2 diabetes can also be reversed by intermittent fasting ( plus sensible diet obviously) ..

rusticgal 28-12-2024 03:40 PM

Awww...poor you. I bet that was scary...

GoldHeart 28-12-2024 05:20 PM

Sounds awful ....I imagine this is a wake up call , take care of your health as best as you can. You may need to alter lifestyle changes.

This has never happened to me,but I'm glad I only indulge once a year at Christmas. Cutting down on sugar and alcohol was the best thing:wavey: .

Crimson Dynamo 28-12-2024 06:16 PM

scary but this can be reversed with a change of diet thankfully

…awwwwww you, that must have been so scary for you…..I’m so glad though that you’ve quickly got a diagnosis and that it’s something that can be controlled with lifestyle changes and tweaks as well as your medication you’ve been given…and those lifestyle changes will not only help in control of your Type 2 Diabetes, but they’ll hopefully enhance your life in other ways …no more spinning for you, just walking and enjoying a regular exercise routine…it really does help to balance the mind as well as the body…you take care, Gusto…..

caprimint 29-12-2024 05:55 AM

Does anybody in your family have it? Type 2 is typically genetic so you've probably been prediabetic for a long time, have you ever been tested before?

Make sure you walk after every meal, it'll help keep your sugars in range

Cherie 29-12-2024 11:19 AM

Gusto could you post please so we know you are okay :worry:

Glad you are OK now?

The good thing is that it is reversible

Ithinkiloveyoutoo 29-12-2024 04:39 PM

Take care dear

Maru 29-12-2024 04:50 PM

So glad you made it out OK. When my grandfather was diagnosed and he went into the ER, he had a reading so high they couldn't measure it with what they had. They had to send off to a lab. Holidays definitely bring on more surprises as people's diets and habits change dramatically, so they start to notice things that weren't the norm before... but you are being treated now so get better  I guess this is one reason why New Years resolutions are a thing...

user104658 29-12-2024 09:00 PM

Don't just cut sugar, cut all the junk carbs. Wheat/grains/rice/starchy veg (yes bin the 'taters, sorry). Plenty of good veg you can still have I'm not saying go carnivore but yeah... wheat and other bulk carbs, just get rid.

Also don't replace sugar with synthetic sweeteners... just eat cleaner. You'll feel better and live longer.
