Bank Holiday opinion...
 

Its 08:30 on a Bank Holiday Monday and you are woken up by the noise of a chain saw trimming shrubbery in the New Neighbours garden...they have gone away and allowed a company in to do it.
Its 11:30 now and they are still at it and only one third of the way around the garden...
Luckily we are not having friends/family for a BBQ and fortunately its not warm enough to sit in the garden...but what if I had and what if it was???
Is it me or are people totally selfish these days with no respect for others and the fact its a Bank Holiday...:fist:

I googled it and in my area (Manchester Council) noisy works are meant to be prohibited on Bank Holidays!

Find our who the company is, tell them it's not ****ing on and that you're going to devote your life to rubbishing them on every review site on the Internet.

Sadly you are correct ..

We have neighbours to the back of us ( diagonally ) who have spent 6 months having an extension added to the back of their house .. so we have had building noises every weekend and bank holiday even some evenings .

What makes it even worse is that they are building illegally .. the double extension itself is bigger than the actual house and they seem to have beaten the system !!

When it was obvious that it was going to be of monstrous proportions their next door neighbours contacted the council planning .. only to be told that they had sent out 7 letters to the neighbours giving them the chance to comment or complain .. not ONE neighbour received any correspondence !!!

The guy is ‘known’ in the area .. someone you don’t mess with ….

They might have a fully booked day, they're just doing their job

There are usually noise restrictions for weekends and bank holidays, check with your Council and report the business if they are breaching the laws

Take video evidence and report them Rusti, the homeowners obviously wanted it done while they were away so they wouldn't be incovenienced by the noise

Its too late .. it’s all finished plus I don’t think anyone wants any trouble

Out of courtesy you should wait until 9am before carrying out any noisy works imo on weekends and Bank Holidays. But some peoples lives don’t stop on Bank Holiday! I am a small business owner and still working today. My neighbour was mowing his lawn this morning at 9am. Couldn’t fault him - he waited til it was appropriate,

I mean...we have been out to get away from it. Just come back and the chainsaw is still going. Seriously if I had people over for a BBQ or drinks I would have been fuming.
They have trimmed the bush and its all over my BBQ, garden table and lawn...husband just gone out to have a word....

Just doing that now...apparently they claim they can and one other set of neighbours have also complained to them...

Would you feel differently if it was the neighbours themselves doing the work

It’s live and let live situation if you wanted work done and they could only come on a bank holiday would you put your life on hold?
It’s the same with having a family gathering would you not have one because you’re neighbours wouldn’t like it

…let us know whether they’re understanding/reasonable/considerate etc.. with Mr Rustiboy when he speaks to them …the outcome of his chat….

There are no laws about having a family gathering, there are laws regarding building noise on Sundays and Bank holiday and you have to start and finish at set times on a Saturday, Mr C is always careful to stop any noisy work if he is doing a project, upsetting the neighbours is a big no no, especially if you have just arrived....

He spoke with them and asked them to come in and clear the garden..all very civil. I then told him about the comments on here and seeing online it is against the law. Husband called company owner and he thinks its all lawful...my husband said it wasnt and it reflects badly on his business. Company said 3 other neighbours had complained and one woman on opposite corner even came out in her night dress swearing her head off at them...she then went on town facebook page and complained before it was taken down...

No I wouldn't feel any different. Its a Bank Holiday...its called consideration and respect. I have no problem if they had a family gathering in the back garden and were singing and chatting and playing music at a reasonable level...but the constant drone of a chainsaw all day is not acceptable and why its against the law.

Elderly neighbours would be more put out by a late night party than someone working in the garden

Im sure they would...but I just wonder how you would feel if you had invited family or friends around for a BBQ on a May Bank holiday only to have it ruined by a chainsaw and debris falling all over your BBQ, table and guests :shrug:

It wouldn’t bother me unless you went round and told your neighbours what you had planned otherwise they are not mind readers

And again they have no loyalty to you
It’s like someone building an extension they don’t stop because the neighbours don’t like it

We work for multi millionaires and even those don’t get to say what their neighbours can and can’t do if it’s been given the green light through planning

I have to admit any gardening work I do would be on a bank holiday.
Due to my career, a bank holiday is often the only time I can do serious work in the garden.
Although I only potter about really.
As I have some guys who come to do the real garden work.

I would not have machinery going though, maybe lawn mower but that would only be for an hour or so.

In rusti's case, if I knew she was having family and/ or friends for a day in the garden as in a BBQ.
I'd not want to, out of consideration want to spoil their day.
The guys who do my garden also would never be there outside a normal weekday.

Sorry but by LAW they have to stop at a certain time it doesn't matter how much money you have or don't have, no point in having laws if they are not adhered to, and you can call the police if they are causing a nuisance

My neighbour has just mowed her lawn, mowing is not really an issue you know its not going on for hours, unless you were like my last neighbour who seemed to manage to spend the whole day mowing with hourly breaks inbetween :joker: revving up a chainsaw for hours on end is a different matter
