Is it inhumane to keep insane people alive?

I think it is inhumane to keep truely insane people alive, if they see things that arent there, things they dont like, locking them in a padded cell would keep other people from harm, but what about the poor Insane person?

This is like the topic on euthanasia. It has no answers as the Government won't allow anyone to die by choice. Choosing insane people to die - is just like euthanasia. Also, you can be 'insane' but just plain stupid and not dangerous as such, but if you are very dangerous and a threat to society and even yourself - then locking them up is the only way really. But death is out of the question and always will be

Scarlett. 13-09-2007 09:07 PM

I mean like the type of insane where they see things

I realise what you say, but from the Governments point of view - they will refuse to differentiate

It's not that bad Benji - It is subject worth debating, but I feel that it will hit a brick wall, as it just won't change - blame Government and the Law

Its just I saw this freaky Japanise film (in English) today, about a mad person, I felt sorry for them and it made me think

12bigbrother12 13-09-2007 09:18 PM

They should be kept alive, not murdered

RockStar 13-09-2007 09:20 PM

I think this topic is guilty of generalising insanity.

Not all insanity is bad.

Don't you know that truly insane people enjoy their lives? They just enjoy living in a different place than the rest of the population.

A wise person once said: Neurotic people build castles in the sky ... Insane people live in them.

Adolf Hitler had an answer to this it was called the final solution. He had all the insane people gassed. It was part of Eugenics movement that was very popular in Germany during the 1930's promoted by the Nazi regime to preserve and enhance supposed "racial purity".

This wasn't the only country to employ such idea's but not to the extreme of killing people. Both Canada and Sweden continued sterilize mentally handicapped individuals by law until 1970's.

I really don't think we want to go back to those times and with modern medicines a lot of the people killed or sterilized back then can lead useful and productive lives.

I understand what you say and IMO it is a possibility in other countries who aren't so worried about keeping people alive - [all people], but in the United Kingdom, they really want to keep everyone alive for as long as possible - at least it seems that way

Scarlett. 13-09-2007 09:27 PM

I mean Im not litrally suggesting I want them dead, its just I feel sorry for the ones who are insane in a bad way

RockStar 13-09-2007 09:29 PM

Insanity is the way forward. One day we'll all be insane.

Adolf Hitler was a mad man who was quite happy to kill as many people as he could. Who they were hardly mattered to him. Jews and the English being top of his list, but for insane people, then I can totally understand his reasoning - the reasoning of a mad man and that is madness in itself.

I also have to look into the possibilities of curing these insane people. I know that little can be done right now, but in 4 to 5 years, something could be done - like an operation on the brain and some special drugs and so on - so we have to look into that also. But like I said - the Government won't move on this

bananarama 13-09-2007 10:08 PM

Not many of us are sane. In fact I do believe I am the only one that is. Therefore I would elect to be put in a padded cell in order to protect myself from the rest of you..

Serously you cannot assume a so called insane person seeing things is unahappy.

My advise dont worry about the insane just worry about keeping sane in a world full of the insane.......

"Adolf Hitler was a mad man who was quite happy to kill as many people as he could. Who they were hardly mattered to him. Jews and the English being top of his list,"

Once again Nodi... I mean The Stillness, you are totally uneducated on a subject you want to debate on. The English were not top of his list. He had massive respect for us and did not want to exterminate us. We declared war on him and forced him in to a war with us. He would rather have worked with the English.

Ruth 14-09-2007 06:09 AM

Killing insane people is not a solution. Most insane people are not unhappy - and where would you draw the line anyway? Some people wold be classed as insane, when in fact they had had a severe nervous breakdown. Some people would class schizophrenics as insane, when schizophrenia can usually be controlled with medication.

I would say it's far more inhumane to not allow someone who is insane to remain alive.

Captain.Remy 14-09-2007 06:38 AM

That's a hard decision to make, it's not easy, the governments aren't ready to make the choice actually.

Sod_James 14-09-2007 08:45 AM

Well the same could be said for people born with an intense disability. Should the same be done with them. At the end of the day its an endless debate because in many cases the person with the problme cannot properly express their wish.

spacebandit 14-09-2007 10:53 PM

I support euthanasia for terminally ill people who have the mental capacity to make an informed decision that they wish to end their lives.

With verification of the medical condition from two independent doctors
and verification of the patients reasoning capacity from two psychiatrists.

Other than that - No

Conor 15-09-2007 07:59 PM

The danger there is that they may not want to die, but they don't tell you beforehand. That would be classed as murder... apparently.
