Welsh stations ban Leon's debut single

A group of Welsh radio stations have decided to boycot X Factor winner Leon Jackson's debut single.

Bridge FM, Swansea Bay Radio, Radio Carmarthenshire, Radio Pembrokeshire and Scarlet FM - all owned by Town and Country Broadcasting - have suggested that phone line issues resulted in Leon's rival Rhydian Roberts missing out on the grand prize.

"Our radio station presenters have been inundated with calls suggesting that during Saturday's X Factor their votes for Welsh favourite Rhydian, supported by local Neath diva Katherine Jenkins, were not able to be counted as lines were jammed," programme manager Gareth Davies told Radiotoday.co.uk.

"As a result until justice is done, we’ve decided not to play the winner's single on our group of stations."

Sore losers...... Leon won and they should get over it.

Tom4784 17-12-2007 12:37 PM

Radio Guys....Leon won, no amount of boycotting is gonna change that. The boycotting campaign won't put a dent in the sales so really it's all for nothing really.

Angry Welsh radio stations ban Leon single

Not one, not two, but FIVE Welsh radio stations have decided to boycott X Factor winner Leon Jackson's single today. "Our radio station presenters have been inundated with calls suggesting that during Saturday's X Factor, their votes for Welsh favourite Rhydian, supported by local Neath diva Katherine Jenkins, were not able to be counted as lines were jammed," programme manager Gareth Davies said, adding, "As a result, until justice is done, we’ve decided not to play the winner's single on our group of stations."

That's really pathetic - would Rhydian want that? Even if he secretly does, I doubt it would help matters to publicise it or condone anything that goes against Leon - who did win very fairly: fair and square. If anything, it makes non-Welsh Rhydian fans a little bit disgusted (well that's the case for me, anyway). Having said that, I don't think it should affect sales too much, as many of Leon's fans probably weren't Welsh to begin with. It'd all be much simpler if political correctness wasn't involved - but then, I'm not too sure what I was expecting.

well its up to them isnt it,but it is a bit pathetic but tbh if you 100% truly beleived that Leon only won because Rhydians line was blocked would you still want to play Leons song? This wont be helping Rhydian though which is a bad thing

MarkWaldorf 17-12-2007 02:10 PM

I read you have banned Leon's single. Personally I think it a stupid thing to do. It makes the Welsh look like sore losers.

Quote:

Hi and thanks for your email. We've been flooded with emails of support for the past 24 hours. All we're doing is reflecting what many of our listeners think. If the tide turns, then of course we'll play the single.

Kind regards,

Gareth Davies
Programme Manager
Town and Country Broadcasting
Looks like the people of Wales are sore losers after all.

Don't worry they are part of England really.

Wales became incorporated into England under the Statute of Rhuddlan in 1284. That is why Wales it isn't represented on the Union Flag.

GiRTh 17-12-2007 06:02 PM

I wonder if the Welsh consider themselves a part of England?

Would you if you were Welsh and had probably had to sign your country away at the end of a sword. We had to build a lot of very big castles to keep them under control before realised we weren't leaving.

However, back to the subject, I don't know what their problem is with the Scot's and not wanting to play a Scotsman's song on their radio stations. You would have thought they would be over joyed to see another Celtic country beat the English.
