Was anyone else offended by Darnell\'s nominations?

Not by the people he nominated, but his reasons for nominating Rebecca? I found that to be ignorant and offensive. I mean a lot of kids watch Big Brother. How do you think they felt seeing that?

xXEtchieXx 09-07-2008 03:54 PM

What were his reasons for nominating Rebecca?
I can't remember them being offensive to anyone but herself. It was well after 10 by the time Darnell nominated anyway, kids should've been tucked up in bed by then.

I ask the same questions. If I cant remember his reason then I'm quite sure I wasn't offended.

Wellsita 09-07-2008 03:56 PM

Probably not, as I don't even remember what he said! Darnell can see what is happening around him so he probably told the truth!

Billy 09-07-2008 03:59 PM

He was very hypocritical. He said shes a hypocrite, and shes immature and doesnt act 21, when he is best mates with Kat.

He just mentioned that Rebecca was having tantrums, acting like the little kid in the candy shop that didn't get it's piece of candy.I don't understand what's offensive about that? Kids of that age shouldn't be watching Big Brother at gone 10pm.Actually, I don't think they should be watching it full stop.

bananarama 09-07-2008 04:09 PM

Darnell is a toe rag of a hypocrite. He said to BB he was nominating Mario for strategic reasons. So much for those who say he is genuine.....He is a game player and will stab anyone in the back to get his talentless hands on the prize money.

Kat screams and goes OTT, but always in a happy way...she also has high emotional intelligence and empathy for other people, both things Bex lacks. It was mostly about Bex's fits and temper tantrums, not acting childish per se.

Erm....It's a game. I say good on him for playing it.

bigbr0ther 09-07-2008 04:13 PM

"Yet you throw temper tantrums all the time, throw fits all the time. You know what I’m saying? You get away with it. She’s like a freaking child in a sweet shop or a kid in a candy store who doesn’t get the piece of candy they want."

The implications about kids are what offended me. That all kids are immature and constantly throwing tantrums is a negative stereotype and simply untrue. I know many kids who are kind, compassionate, intelligent, agreeable, mature people and those kids don't deserve to be stereotyped in this way.

If a white person had referred to anyone in there as being "like a freaking black person" he would have gotten kicked out of the house or at least a very serious warning.

Even though his nominations were filled with hypocrisy, that's not what offended me.

stonedape 09-07-2008 04:17 PM

The kid in a sweet shop line is a common cliche, and it's based off truth. If you've never seen a child cry in a store because they weren't getting candy/toys/something they wanted then you must not go out enough.

Do you want to ban the entire word "childish", too? Because that implies something about children as well.

bigbr0ther 09-07-2008 04:18 PM

I think the word "childish" is offensive and I chose not to use it.

stonedape 09-07-2008 04:23 PM

Well, different strokes I guess. I don't find it offensive because yes there are many well-behaved, intelligent kids...but there are just as many (if I'm honest, many more) whiny little brats.

I should know, I was the kid crying in the candy store back in the day. But we weren't cool enough to have a whole store devoted to just candy.

It's not a stereotype at all, the majority of 3-6 year old kids are like that, that's why they are children because they lack any of triats you mention. You know many kids do you? are you a kid yourself? or are you one of those weird 'adults' that spend all their time with children? If you're not i'd be seriously worried.

What has race got to do with anything. He's stereotyping 'kids' because the 90% of 'kids' are like that, it's fact, I don't see the comparison to racism at all. Why are you sticking up for children like this? when I first read this post I thought you were having a laugh but now I realise you're just a bit of an idiot.

Darnell had valid points IMO. Even though I like Mario as a HM it's good to see nominate him for that reason, afterall BB is a gameshow he's allowed to be tactical. As for the Bex nomination again it was fair, like the majority of the others he's fed up of her childish ways.

LOL. I've heard some offensive words in my time and "Childish" is not one of them :joker:

GiRTh 09-07-2008 04:33 PM

If that's what he said then I'm not offended at all. He spoke the truth. It was nice too see him vote tactically in nominating Mario. Some would blast him for playing the game but I praise him for even thinking about the game. His other nominations was also spot on. No one could possibly call Bex mature so to call her childish didn't offend me at all.

andybigbro 09-07-2008 04:36 PM

I wasnt offended by them.. Should i be?

bigbr0ther 09-07-2008 04:37 PM

I see what you're saying, but he could have easily made the same point (although I disagree with it) by saying, "Rebecca throws temper tantrums all the time. She is incredibly immature. She gets incredibly mad at the smallest things and it's really annoying."

I dont think you should be, his reasons were valid, and if he thinks someone is being childish then he is entitled to say it

bigbr0ther 09-07-2008 05:22 PM

All I'm saying is that he could have made the same point in a better way.

For example?

Noel 09-07-2008 05:30 PM

People get offended over the most ridiculous things..
Next. it'll be offensive to call someone a brat because it is discriminating against the brats of the world. Darnell was simply using a common phrase. I'm sure he didn't intend to "offend" anyone.
