My Name Is Hennessy And I\'m A Music Nazi..

You heard right, I am a music nazi.
I like almost no pop, I've seen one picture of Lady Gaga and wouldn't be able to pick her out of a line up.
I never know who's number one in the charts, that are so ovine oriented:devil:.
If I have no cds in the car then I'll listen to Xfm but I'll always prefer to listen to my extensive back catalogue of classic ,blues, metal, hip hop, soul, bluegrass, folk, rock, electronica, funk, opera, ragtime, breakbeat, etc etc I really could go on.
Some people say they like everything but they always change their tune when I try to put on a Robert Johnson cd.
If I hear something on the tv I don't like I will walk away so I can't see it.
I take the mick out of my friends for likeing two avril lavigne songs.
I play guitar, bass, piano (not so good) and harmonica.
I have over 400 Gbs worth of music so I don't need to listen to the radio.
I've got 60 Nina Simone records so why should I know Lady Gaga?
I almost didn't go out with my ex because she listens to Usher and Leonel Richie
ps try to check out the genius that was Chris Whitley esp. Dirt Floor

ok rant over:devil:

what does?
Delving into hundreds of years of music spanning tons of genre, listening to Janis Joplin, BB King, Scott Joplin, Chopin, Bessie Smith, Etta James, Afrika Bambaataa, Bob Dylan, Leadbelly, Miles Davis etc?
Following Disney stars music and being caught up in the current ovine charts sounds boring to me.
It's called music appreciation

Scarlett. 18-08-2009 01:46 PM

I like all the classics, as well as Lady Gaga, and all the others, I also listen to Eminem and Akon, not forgetting 50 Cent, I love Evenesance, and I also love Kasabian, Oasis is a great band, Johnny Cash and Elvis are legends, as is Frank Sinatra, Robbie Williams and Take That are also among my favourites, sometimes I like Britney Spears too, The Buggles were a great 80's band, MJ was a great singer, also Scooter makes pretty good Hardcore music.

First and last time you will all see those names in one paragraph

I don't know how to respond to that.
You know artist release a lot more stuff that doesn't end up on youtube?
sounds like you're not actually that into music at all

Scarlett. 18-08-2009 01:58 PM

it really doesn't.
also haven't they started to ban music videos now.

Scarlett. 18-08-2009 02:06 PM

anyway, I never said I was a dedicated fan to them, just that I enjoy listening to them, I enjoy listening to most music (unless its some middle aged man being depressing)

Shaun 18-08-2009 03:32 PM

People like what they enjoy. Everyone's tastes are different, and some people are more enthusiastic about music than others. It also depends what artists they are exposed to. I don't know anyone on this site who has heard any of Jim Thirlwells' recordings (aka Foetus etc) for instance. However, one member listened to a track I posted and loved it. Most of the bigger radio stations are mainstream and only play a very small minority of the music that is out there.

hennessy 18-08-2009 06:06 PM

I had a japanese import of Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel - Nail when I used to listen to skinny puppy and NIN

Twilight 18-08-2009 06:13 PM

Ok but taking the mick out of your friends for likeing two avril lavigne songs is a bit low imo

Yeah most people who listen to Foetus like those artists too. Funnily enough I never did. I preferred the likes of Coil, Test Department and Swans. Etc..

I'm not suprised people dont listen to songs called "Foetus"

sounds creepy and weird

Scarlett. 18-08-2009 09:59 PM

Well it does...

Twilight 18-08-2009 09:59 PM

Its just music snobbery end of:rolleyes:

Enid 18-08-2009 10:06 PM

I only become a "music snob" when people are too closed minded to listen to music that isn't in the top 40.

There is a lot of brilliant stuff out there, including the bands that have horribly morbid and strange names. They are the best!

So the name of an artist would stop you from listening to them?

Actually it our choice to listen to what we want if we don't like most music that isn't in the top 40, we don't have to listen to it do we?

And being a music snob just means you that can't take the fact that people don't like your fave music :bored:

It's not that you don't like it, you just won't give it the time of day. Of course it's your choice, but if people are not willing to listen to music outside of what is popular today, then that makes you closed minded.

Have to say though, you're all missing out. There is too much crap being generated these days. There was a time where I could play Radio 1 during the day, but not anymore.

I do actually like some unknown stuff but i can't really say its amazing and that people are missing out

I'm the kinda music aficionado who takes great pleasure in the people who willingly subscribe and pay for generic, bland, balless music that the record moguls churn out with ruthless efficiency; pocketing masses of money in the process while they saturate our tv sets and radio channels with their mindless fad inducing pop drivel, happy in the knowledge that they have total control over who you think is cool or not cool.

In the meantime I actually really enjoy discovering new interesting sounds from both the past and the present. Call me a snob if you like, but I have more respect for others who share my love for the more obscure acts who have never really hit the limelight. It's like we're devoted to unearthing real talent, rather than something that conforms to what's perceived as being cool right now.

Obviously I'm generalizing like mad here but there is a certain amount of truth init. Oh, and the same applies to film too. Like discovering lesser known, more interesting works that don't conform.

Twilight 18-08-2009 10:44 PM

I bet you love Herschell Gordon Lewis. Or am I wrong?

Enid 18-08-2009 10:44 PM

Music has no diversity anymore. The same generic shíte over and over. For example, Girls Aloud and Britney Spears. All of their songs sound the same with the heavily synthed vocals. They might as well produce one song that we can play over and over and over again, because it ****ing sounds like it.

Give me real talent!

Scarlett. 18-08-2009 10:48 PM

and of course, by applying you logic to the sterotypes of lesser known music

All bands that have morbid names are all devil worshippers......right?
