The english on BB forum.

I'm a French-Canadian and english is my second language so its not perfect yet. When I see some of the posts here I wonder if either people don't care about their english or they're just uneducated *******.

Make a effort when you write, its for your own good as well.

Nigeria_Bob 21-08-2009 03:12 PM

ZOMGs…

Beastie 21-08-2009 03:13 PM

Well its just a case of typing very fast!
If you dont like it then tough!

Dr.Gonzo 21-08-2009 03:14 PM

I'm all for proper English. French-Canadians, not so much.

That doesn't make any sense. Writing properly doesn't take more time.

merv 21-08-2009 03:14 PM

Yes but we are multi national people these days, so have write to allow for recent Arrivals to understand us.

No capital 'E' for English? And you are a little hazy on the apostrophe for someone who's being so critical.

We all have different skills. I bet some of the people on here who make themselves understood without having perfect literacy can do lots of other things that you can't. So please... don't refer to people as idiots. It makes it seem like you're trying to make yourself look better. And you're not.

French-Canadian!!!! Ewwwwwwwww lol

IsleOfWeather 21-08-2009 03:17 PM

There is no excuse for text speak. ffs.

eggdavid 21-08-2009 03:17 PM

french canadian -- frog and a yank? combined?

:bored:

MargeryFan 21-08-2009 03:17 PM

If I had to make time to check each post was perfect I woudn't bother with forums. As long as people don't go out of their way to spell things incorrectly I think it's fine.

Text speak REALLY annoys me.

The old word spelt incorrectly isn't really anything to get your knickers in a twist about though.

Dr.Gonzo 21-08-2009 03:19 PM

I am in love with the last few posts. OP, pull the stick out of your arse ... sorry, I meant 'ass'. We're here to have fun and chat, not be pulled by the grammar police.

merv 21-08-2009 03:22 PM

Nebi, not intending to be rude honestly.
But wasn't there a vote in Canada a few year back to decide French or English? and English won.
So English should be your First language surely unless you are from Quebec maybe

GypsyGoth 21-08-2009 03:24 PM

I try my best, if I notice whenever I get it wrong or mess up words, I go back and edit it.

What do you mean when you say bad English.....spelling, text. The way sentences are constructed......What is sticking in your crawl enough to insult the posters......

Both English and French are the official languages of the country. All over Canada we have people who speak English and French. Yes Quebec is where most Frenchies are but you can find many in every part of the country.

merv 21-08-2009 03:41 PM

"A multitude of languages are spoken in Canada. According to the 2006 census, English and French are the preferred language ("home language", or language spoken most often in the home) of 67.1% and 21.5%, respectively.
English and French are recognized by the Constitution of Canada as "official languages," which means that all laws of the federal government are enacted in both English and French and that federal government services are required to be available in both languages."

Which makes me wonder. if the margin of English speakers is so much more than Spoken French.
Why English is not chosen as the 1st, it would save a lot of Paperwork regarding laws and also intergration also

You could say the same here. But I'm glad they don't make me learn Hebrew.

It doesn't seem you have made much of an effort yourself here! It is a forum - as long as I can understand people I don't care!! Some people!!!

The only thing I've noticed with you is that you ALWAYS use exclamation marks.

This is the last place I thought I'd get into Canadian language laws, tabarnak.

Anyway, I don't have a problem lapsing into txt speak. A phone is a phone, a computer keyboard is a computer keyboard. My brain is developed enough to tell the difference between these two devices.

I also suspect the educational system in Britain is failing a lot of these young people. Many of them can't spell, construct sentences, or express themselves. Or, they choose not to out of some misguided belief that writing properly makes you a "posh twat" or something like that innit bruv.

Mark Twain said that using an exclamation mark is like laughing at your own joke. I'm kind of with him on that one...

jgfrise 21-08-2009 03:58 PM

What really irritates me is when people write "must of" instead of "must have" but I am only mentioning it for this post:shocked:

correct me if i'm wrong but shouldn't it be "an" effort.:cat:

Jayson 21-08-2009 04:04 PM

What annoys me the most is when people get the wrong type of to/two/too etc.

It really grinds my gears...

Prole 21-08-2009 04:06 PM

I have to admit.... what drives me mad is when people say "alot" and they mean " a lot". Also just mentioning it in passing...

I sometimes do that, just because "a lot" never really looks right to me :joker:

I always make sure that I have as little spelling and grammar errors as possible when I post, it is just much easier to read and understand. I also find it hard to debate BB with people when they can't construct a sentence.

Ahhh... so you do that, do you. You relise of course, that next time you will be punished? I'll get back to you.

I've got to say that, compared to most forums I've seen, the standard is not too bad here. And yes, it does make it so much easier to understand when it's clear.
