Reading the support for Science on this board, his fans sum up the scary rap-obsessed young people becoming more prevalent within society. They like Science because he speaks their language: Ghetto talk, which has better results than normal conversation. Right across the country gullible young people watching BB are now mimicking Science to browbeat others into submission. I bet even sales of rap music will go up as more and more people increase their repertoire of gangsta type phrases to browbeat others.

I think if you really read the support for science across this board, you will see that very few, if any like him because he speaks "Ghetto talk" and none seem to have mentioned rap music at all! And I'm a fan of science and I certainly woudn't classify myself as one of the "scary rap-obsessed young people" I hate rap music, awful stuff. Gimme some Bob Dylan or Led Zeppelin anyday.

I think that this post was very sweeping with regards to the young people of today. Also to call young people gullible is untrue most young people today are pretty switched on about things and I doubt that Science and his behvaiour is going to have a big impact on the other than to give the a laugh

Young people need role models thats why they like Science because they can identify with him.

On BBLB a couple of weeks ago, two young rapsters appeared as guests and defended Science and launched into an assault on Derek saying: "yeah, that Derek, innit, he cahnt even strin' two sen'ences toge'er, innit. Yeah, that Derek 'ees a typical Tory, innee". I bet all the kids at home were giving it the old Ali G flick of the fingers to that. Innit. :bored:

I am a Science fan but I don't see him as a role model neither do I want to be him and nor do I talk as though I am from the ghetto. I like his honesty and in a house full of back stabbing bitches he is a breath of fresh air.

I think your wrong to make such sweeping judgements of people on this board and put the Science fan's all into one bracket, he has many different types of people that support him on here, for instance posters like Ruth who I class as one of the best people on here when it comes to putting their point across and it's a rather ignorant thing to do.

AndyJK, I like Science, and I can't stand rap music. Neither do I use 'ghetto talk' - in fact, I'm a bit of a stickler for the correct use of the English language.

It's a little unfair to try and say why people like a particular housemate don't you think? I'll say again what I've said before; Science is loud - true, he's hot headed - true, he doesn't like to be wrong - true. However, I also find him honest - refreshingly so in a house full of backstabbers. He's compassionate, he stands up for what he believes, even if he knows it will make him unpopular, and he doesn't try and play games with people's emotions. Also, while some people may see him as confrontational, I think he is just not afraid to tell someone if he thinks they are wrong about something. Despite what you might think, he also DOES listen to people when they talk to him properly. Before Derek turned into the backstabbing bitch that he appears to have become in recent times, he often had talks with Science when he thought Science had done something wrong or handled a situation badly, and Science was prepared to liste and take on board what he said. He (Science) also listened when Roberto used to talk to him. Science also has morals of a far higher standard than a lot of the housemates. I don't doubt for one second that if I was in the house with him, I'd tell him to shut up a few times; but I would also have a great fondness for him. I truly believe that he is one of the most genuine housemates, certainly of recent years. We ALL have faults - it's part of being human - but I believe that Science is a decent, good person, and that's what counts, far more than the way he speaks o(or raps).

I'm suprised that you claim to know why most supporters of Science like him - I don't see any evidence to support your assertion that people like him because of his 'ghetto talk' or his constant rapping. Why don't you ask people why they like him, rather than tell them why they like him?

Bottom line for me is that Science has a good heart, a good soul and a good brain.

Derick. Is at the other end of the social spectrum and every bit as bad as Science but in a different way.

His posh stance is outdated and as old as the hills and in itself intimidating . He uses poshness to bully and show off his belief he is superior to all. Being posh does not automatically mean one is intelligent or nice. He is neither. Intelligence in Dereck has been replaces by basic animal cunning...Don't be fooled by the Dereck's of this world. There are a lot of such false idiots roaming about parliament right now. Dereck to lose..

I totally agree with your comments on Derek, he is actually a worse role model that what Science is imo, Science while a very loud and irritional person he is still young but has a compassionate side, Derek on the other hand see's life as just one big game and he totally manipulates people. He is in one the most ruthless professions and when has a politician ever been seen to be a nice person. He think's of himself as a leader and a gentleman but you are right he is a bully and he abuses his posistion as an older person in the house to bully others.

The way he keeps on about being ashamed of his own race is a poor example to set and he is almost like a black man trapped in a white racist man's body.

I think everyone is forgetting that this is a game show. I doubt very much that Derek would behave the way he does in the house in real life. The same goes with science. They didn't go into the house to be role models. No-one in there is a positive role model to youngsters. Even Eugene has turned nasty. The show aint for kids, even though they watch. The programme goes out after nine. If they didn't backstab how else could they infuence nominations without getting into trouble? I don't want people to 'be themselves' or have 'no gameplan'. It is a game! How boring would it be if everybody was nice and polite and agreed with each other?
I know it comes to a surprise to some people but here are some facts:
1. They all want to win the £100,000. (Well would you turn it down?)
2. They all want to be on t.v
3.They are all very much aware of the cameras
4.They are all using a gameplan (some better than others, some more obvious than others)
5. They are all 2 faced because they have to be (if they weren't no-one would speak to anyone at all. You tell someone to their face you don't like them and don't speak to them you will be up for nomination).

I'd rather people played the game properly, like Dereck and Makosi, than lounging about like they are on an 18-30 or club rep style holiday. I'm fed up of hearing lies like: 'I'm only here for the experience' or 'I don't want to win it'.

I want to be entertained. The nature of the show is that it is a competetition not a popularity contest. So those who lie, cheat, steal, backstab, bitch and cause arguments are playing the game. Dereck is using divide and rule. Makosi is using sexuality, lies, intrigue and her diva persona. Craig was using sucking up and bitching. Science is using truth to get the HM's to turn on each other. Kemal is trying to get brownie points by revealing Makosi as the mole. Orlaith, Anthony and Eugene aren't even trying.

What complete rubbish. I think you underestimate the different classes of people who like Science. The number of people who have been on BBL. Celebrities I might add, that like him. Suranne Jones from Coronation Street springs to mind. Is she into rap? It has nothing to do with his 'ghetto' talk. Which incidentally he doesn't actually speak. He has a quite common Leeds accent. Does anybody realise it's a game? That's why I liked Victor from last year. He played the game and won alot of fans for that, until the whole argument and wedding debacle. Who the Fook cares if they lie, or cheat. We don't have to like them. They would have won the game fair and square because it's a GAME. There are no rules in the house that say you have to be nice. That's why Big Brother 4 was schitt.

It really bemuses me. Yes I don't like any of the housemates really, but it's still watchable.

People need to take a dose of reality.

I disagree with some of the comments about Derek and I feel I should stand up to defend my main contender!


I think Derek has used his age and poshness to try and establish himself as a figure of authority in the house, (and even being quiz master in the games has helped reinforced this idea). He's done this with varying degrees of success; some housemates have bought into it, others are now starting to see him as the master schemer that he is.

Whether this is a form of bullying, is up to you. I don't think so. By making out that he is an authority figure in the house, it means that others are less likely to argue with him which may come across as bullying but I feel it is more that these people inherently need on some level some kind of authority despite their concious efforts to resist it. They tried to evict Derek a number of times but failed. He's established himself as popular with the outside and as a figure of authority and intelligence inside the house. This has given him great power over the other housemates.

But most importantly, by getting himself into this position, others are more likely to listen to what he says. Which is why he has been able to whisper Iago-style into people ears and influence their opinions of others. The most obvious culprits are Kemal and Eugene, who Derek seems able to easily manipulate.

He has played the game brilliantly, and this is the kind of character and game player that I like to see in the BB house. The major flaws with his plan that will come back to bite him in the proverbial is that if he is found out in the house (which is already starting to happen) then's he screwed with the housemates. And the public will not like his gameplaying ways. The public generally don't like people who go into the house and purposely try to play with housemates and manipulate them. Personally, it's the main reason I watch BB. I don't see the housemates as role models (although I can accept that they are role models to some but that's society's obsession with fame and that is why there are thousands of people queuing up to get on BB auditions), I see them as contestants on a game where whoever plays the game the best deserves to win it.

Derek to win (although he never will...)

It is a game and this lot are all out to win whatever they say. They will be underhand, friendly, bitchy, downright annoying as they see fit to make sure that they get that prize. No-one has gone in there to make friends - they are all sworn enemies and I cant see any of them remaining friends outside for very long.

Science is just playing the game, although more annoyingly than the others.
