Beyoncé and Lady Gaga lead the pack with 9 nominations each, followed by Britney Spears with 7, Coldplay, Eminem, and Kanye West with 4 each, but who will come out on top???

Locke. 08-09-2009 10:33 PM

Kanye.

And when is it?

MrGaryy 08-09-2009 10:37 PM

^well clearly not considering that Beyonce and GaGa have more than double the nominations.

Iceman 08-09-2009 10:48 PM

I think it's next Sunday but will be shown next Monday on MTV, VH1 etc...

I think Gaga will be snubbed for some reason....Beyonce will win most....

Hoping Janet does something deserving for the King...

[rquote=2556192&tid=147223&author=Nathan]I want one of those drunkards in the audience you sometimes get at awards to climb the stage and t*** him in the face lol[/rquote]

Jarvis Cocker, if he did it to MJ, why not Brand.......

anyway it's usually full of madness, should be worth a watch....Eminem may be a dark horse....

xDramatick 09-09-2009 08:27 AM

Can't wait to see these performances:

* Green Day
* Lady Gaga
* Muse
* P!nk
* Taylor Swift
* Janet Jackson (Rumoured)
* 3OH!3
* The All-American Rejects

I really hope Lady GaGa comes out on top.

MarkWaldorf 09-09-2009 12:56 PM

Janet is now confirmed to open the show.

Plus, I'd be very surprised if Britney didn't pick up at least win. MTV knows that Britney at the VMAs equals ratings and huge exposure. Then again, Matthew Knowles probably slipped MTV a few thousand for Beyonce to win loads. I think Lady Gaga will be quite snubbed as well, but she may pick up some of the 'art' awards.

Iceman 09-09-2009 01:29 PM

Just added that Janet will open the show........hopefully it will be great, I think Michael will get a rememberance reward or something.....

For the 2009 Video Music Awards on September 13, MTV is cooking up a feast of "Twilight"-y goodness. You probably already know that stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will be on hand to debut exclusive footage from their upcoming vampire saga sequel, "New Moon." But the manna from pop-culture heaven will actually begin before the show kicks off.

During the VMA preshow — which starts at 8 p.m. ET, an hour before the main event — "Twilight" star Ashley Greene (a.k.a. Alice Cullen) will be our celebrity fashion correspondent. She'll be on the A-list red carpet, bringing you live updates about what everyone's wearing and chatting with celebs as they make their way into Radio City Music Hall for the show.

Who Is VMA Red Carpet Correspondent Ashley Greene?

Greene will be joined on the carpet by MTV News correspondents Sway and Tim Kash, who will be talking with the hottest artists and celebrities flying into New York to take in the VMA action. Inside the venue, reporters Jim Cantiello and Kim Stolz will be hunting down show secrets and giving live updates of the crazy behind-the-scenes prep for the big event.

We're also introducing to the fold our first-ever Twitter correspondent, Justine Ezarik — a.k.a. iJustine, the Internet comedienne and proud holder of over 620,000 Twitter followers. She'll be integrating Twitter updates into the TV broadcast in a way you've truly never seen before. This won't just be a plain old scroll of tweets, but a live visualization of trends — and it promises to be very cool.

This year, the celebrity interviews will begin even before the stars arrive on the red carpet, as we're utilizing some slick new technology to chat live with celebs as they get dressed in their hotel rooms and make their way to the venue.

And, then, of course, there's the VMA show itself, hosted for the second year in a row by Russell Brand. Performers include Janet Jackson (doing a tribute to Michael), Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Green Day, Pink, Taylor Swift and Muse.

Madonna is rumoured to appear doing a speech but as she is not up for any awards she wont sing which is a shame as she could of sung Celebration (Making it the first live performance of the song).

Zac 09-09-2009 04:09 PM

Aaargh, can't wait for Gaga's performance! It's gonna be one to remember, the Haüs have been working so hard so I hope everyone's voted Gaga. It would be amazing if she won all nine awards.

Arneldo 09-09-2009 04:14 PM

MTV awards are always a complete joke. Especially the Movie awards.

Iceman 09-09-2009 04:19 PM

Watching it to see if Russell Brand goes nuts again......:joker::joker:

Taylor Swift has promised fans that her performance at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards will be "different" to anything that she has done before.

The 19-year-old has been confirmed to perform her latest single 'You Belong With Me' at the September 13 ceremony in New York.

Speaking to MTV News, she said: "[The song] is not going to be as different musically as it's going to be different in that I've never done anything on an awards show like I'm going to do on this one.

"It's in New York, so anything can happen... I would love to perform somewhere outside of the venue."

She added: "I think it could be really cool if it was unlike anything I've ever done at an awards show, which would mean doing it at a different location."

The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, hosted by Russell Brand, will broadcast this Sunday from 9pm.

The hits just keep on coming for the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, and the latest performance announcement is a huge one: Janet Jackson will be performing a tribute to her late brother Michael, who passed away back in June. In fact, Janet's tribute will open Sunday night's show, which is fitting considering Michael was responsible for one of the greatest opening segments in Video Music Awards history, when in 1995 he performed a medley of some of his biggest hits (which included a guest guitar solo by Velvet Revolver axeman Slash) before scoring three Moonmen for his video for "Scream" (his one and only collaboration with sister Janet).

It's still unclear what songs will be included in Janet's tribute to her brother, but considering it's the Video Music Awards and Michael was such a huge icon in the music video universe, it's easy to assume it will incorporate some of his bigger video moments (it would be shocking if it didn't include at least a portion of the "Thriller" dance). Janet, a nine-time Moonman winner herself (including a Video Vanguard prize and two wins for Best Female Video), is no stranger to the VMA stage herself, having performed three times previously and was last on the show in 2000 at Radio City Music Hall (where she performed "Doesn't Really Matter"). The performance has even spawned the excellent promo below, which plugs the performance using a very unusual form of weather that may or may not afflict the New York City area this Sunday night.

Also there's a new Promo that has Michael Jackson's glove reigning down or something, watch it, it's weird...

Russell Brand is such a legend..

Iceman 10-09-2009 10:32 PM

Though Michael Jackson is gone, the King of Pop will be front and center during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday. Not only will his sister Janet make a musical tribute to her brother with a special appearance to help open the show, but we can now reveal that viewers will get their first look at the MJ documentary "This Is It" during the live broadcast, when the trailer premieres on MTV.

Drawn from more than 100 hours of behind-the-scenes footage and produced with the full support of Jackson's family, "This Is It" chronicles the last three months of the superstar's life as he sought to stage a series of 50 sold-out comeback concerts at London's O2 arena. The documentary shows MJ developing the show and rehearsing a number of songs during his final days. "This Is It" is directed by Kenny Ortega, Jackson's creative partner and the director of the planned O2 stage show. Sony Pictures plans to release the film in theaters for a limited two-week engagement, starting on October 28.

MTV will also exclusively premiere an extended trailer for another hotly anticipated fall movie, "New Moon," the second installment of the "Twilight" vampire franchise. Stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will be on hand to debut the footage. "New Moon" co-star Ashley Greene will also be at the show, serving as MTV News' fashion correspondent on the red carpet during the preshow, which airs at 8 p.m. ET.

The VMAs will be hosted for the second year in a row by British comedian Russell Brand. The evening's performers include Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Green Day, Pink, Taylor Swift and Muse. Katy Perry, Ne-Yo, Nelly Furtado, Chace Crawford, Leighton Meester and Miranda Cosgrove are set to present awards.

Madonna And Janet Open The 2009 MTV VMAs!!!

It's now been rumored that Madonna will introduce Janet Jackson at the opening of the 2009 MTV VMAs this Sunday!

Perhaps teaming up to distract the world from Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston's recent movements, Madonna has agreed to introduce Janet Jackson for her big, much-anticipated Michael Jackson tribute taking place at this weekend's MTV Video Music Awards.

This will be the two DIVAS first appearance together! We can't even remember any reference to the pair ever having met, despite being at the same event more than once!

If this is true then wow!

Iceman 12-09-2009 09:56 PM

Though the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards don't begin until Sunday night, the bass-bumping, guitar-wailing action is already in full swing inside New York's Radio City Music Hall as superstar artists rehearse for their performances.

And you know what? It's just not fair that we're the only ones who get a sneak peek at this pop-culture heaven. That's why we've decided to pull aside the curtain and let you know what the first 30 minutes of the VMA show will deliver.

A very special tribute to Michael Jackson will begin the show, and Janet Jackson will be there to take part. From there, it's off to the entertainment races. Get ready for Eminem, Jack Black, Pete Wentz, Kristin Cavallari, Justin Bieber and Miranda Cosgrove.

Did we mention you'll also get Shakira and "Twilight" star Taylor Lautner too? Well, it's gonna happen, so get prepared, and time your bathroom breaks wisely. In the first 30 minutes, you'll also be treated to performances from Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and house-band MC Wale.

Of course, host Russell Brand will be front and center the entire time. Returning for emceeing duty after last year's controversy-filled show, Brand has promised to bring the love to the 2009 VMAs. Goodness knows what that means to the potty-mouthed comedian!

There's pretty much an entire awards show of pop-culture righteousness stuffed into this half-hour. But there's much more to come afterward, and you'll just have to keep glued to the boob tube to take it all in.

There are going to be performances by Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Pink, Green Day and Muse. Plus appearances by Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Nelly Furtado, Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford and Ne-Yo, and exclusive, never-before-seen footage from "Twilight" sequel "New Moon" and the Michael Jackson documentary "This Is It."

So there you are. Welcome behind the VMA curtain. We hope you're as pumped for the show as we are.
