Dundee Council drops Christmas

http://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/Art...1410/?UserKey=

What do you make of this?

30stone 14-11-2009 12:58 PM

I think thats ridiculous why the hell have the done that.
Really is dissapointing, like taking out the christmas spirit.

Lauren 14-11-2009 01:02 PM

"Instead of the traditional Nativity tale, the festival will feature a disco, a contemporary circus, a continental market and a giant stilt-walking fairy" - that sounds awesome. LOL.

Ninastar 14-11-2009 01:02 PM

Ugh thats stupid. I go there sometimes aswell! Its a nice city but there are some right scum there.

King Gizzard 14-11-2009 01:02 PM

fcking ridicolous

Harry! 14-11-2009 01:04 PM

Its all because of the imagrants coming over to our contry, Why should we repect your culture if you dont repect ours.

WOMBAI 14-11-2009 01:09 PM

It is just typical of the way certain groups are trying to erode the British culture - and how some people seem to be too quick to accommodate their views. How about our views? Some people don't seem to care about that any more. This is Britain - the celebration of Christmas is a crucial part of our culture - how dare people try to deny us that! Makes my blood boil!!

Crimson Dynamo 14-11-2009 01:12 PM

it will be becuase of "diversity" worries

\PJ/ 14-11-2009 01:14 PM

Sounds like a pile of sh it to me.

30stone 14-11-2009 01:19 PM

Wrecking Christmas is just horrible.

InOne 14-11-2009 01:53 PM

As arista would say...

Sign of the times.

Prole 16-11-2009 11:01 AM

Not everyone is a Christian, so what's the problem? Like Christmas has anything to do with religion anymore. It's about how much money you can spend, how many parties you can get to and what kind of presents you get. At the last census there were as many people who listed themselves as "Jedi" as listed themselves as "Christian".

I agree with you; but it still is a Christian festival, regardless of the crisis of faith, so I think it's a bit of a slap in the face for the churches of Dundee to be told that they can't celebrate Christmas anymore.

Sold.

I think the worst part of this story is that it sort of implies that people of different religions have either asked for the Christian element to be removed from things; or that the council has been 'forced' to do that to accommodate these people. I highly doubt anybody in Dundee of a different religion asked for any of this.

Crimson Dynamo 28-11-2009 12:55 PM

Dundee brings back Christmas

a victory for common sense:spin:

WOMBAI 28-11-2009 03:20 PM

Pleased to hear it! They should never have considered dropping it in the first place.

Actually I think its more likely overpaid white middle-class liberals working for the local authority dreaming up such stupid schemes. I bet you if you asked most immigrants in the area about banning any religious symbols from lights I would hazard a guess most of them wouldnt give a ****.

Sticks 28-11-2009 08:39 PM

Christmas is not a Christian festival, it is a pagan festival, so they were right to drop references to that religion.

Show me where in the Bible that we are either commanded or even authorised to celebrate the birth of Jesus?

They even have the wrong time of year, as shepherds would not have been in the fields in December. The 25th is more to do with the feasting days of Saturn.

Jords 29-11-2009 12:59 AM

That is not fair at all, xmas is a good festive time, should be celebrated!

Scarlett. 29-11-2009 01:08 AM

The yearly "Christmas is banned" news story has already been posted?

Sticks 29-11-2009 05:13 AM

I have the hat already

perhaps you should inform the Christian church of your findings?

bananarama 29-11-2009 12:58 PM

It's all about not trying to offend other cultures except of course the sitting culture which can be offended at will by the jerks that try to please all at all times. Impossible.....Trying to please all at all times leads to insanity.....

I am not bothered about religious celebrations of any brand........All religions are a load of tosh stuff and garble,,,,But for those that are bothered then they should have the right to maintain their harmless customs.....

I completely agree with this.

It's decisions like this which create cultural divides. People of other religions/cultures have never asked for these changes, yet people in power make them anyway, then halfwits blame the people of other cultures for 'robbing us of our culture'.

It's inflammatory decision-making at it's worst.

PS#1: I'd take yer date with Loz somewhere else, cuz that place is full of Arabs :P

PS#2: Anyone unfamiliar with Scottish Football Vernacular should refrain from commenting on PS #1

;)
