Maggie "Blanche Hunt" Jones dies aged 75

CORRIE star Maggie Jones passed away this morning, aged 75.

The much-loved actress, who played Weatherfield's battleaxe Blanche Hunt, died in hospital after battling a long illness.

She was forced to pull out of filming on the soap in October after being rushed to hospital for major surgery.

Maggie won several comedy awards for playing feisty Blanche - who is loved for her sharp tongue and tell-it-like-it-is manner.

She first appeared in the ITV1 soap in 1974 and became a regular cast member in 1999.

Over 60 is well good.

Average - Bollocks

She was Good to the End
but all that hard work - Shifts
also could have finished her before her time.

She didnt finish before her time cause she enjoyed what she was doing, apparently she used to make her own way to work each day from her home in Manchester

Actually I don't agree that over 60 is 'well good'

Dying between 60 and 70 is imo very young

Deirdre 02-12-2009 06:09 PM

So sad. She was hilarious as Blanche. She'll be sadly missed.

Of Course you would not agree,
She had a Good Run.

Tom 02-12-2009 06:16 PM

why would i not agree?

flemin 02-12-2009 10:47 PM

I feel like crying :( She was best thing about the Street and will be sorely missed by all. Her scenes with the Barlows were the highlight of any episode and I think the AA Meeting episode will go down as one of the all time great comedy moments.

RIP Maggie xx
