Maria

King Gizzard 17-12-2009 08:40 PM

How has Blondie even got this far

Callum 17-12-2009 08:41 PM

The Beatles

Novo 17-12-2009 08:44 PM

Blondie will be victorious

MrGaryy 17-12-2009 08:47 PM

Blondie, obviously.

Ramsay 17-12-2009 08:53 PM

The Beatles x100000
how the hell are Blondie one vote behind

Mrluvaluva 17-12-2009 08:55 PM

Blondie is one of my all time favourite bands. Debbie Harry has an amazing voice. Tracks like Shayla, Fade away and radiate, Dreaming & Union city blue, to name but a few, are classic Blondie at their best. It all sort of went wrong after AutoAmerican though.

setanta 17-12-2009 09:02 PM

how are Blondia winning here?

MrGaryy 17-12-2009 09:02 PM

Blondie are one of the most revolutionary bands of all the time, their music and fashion was miles ahead of it's time. Debbie Harrie is one of the most iconic figures of her time and a fashion revolutionary. Their music continues to live on, remaining timeless.

Eh no. They're up against the Beatles here dear. I'll repeat, The Beatles.

well dear, The Beatles are considered by many to be ludicrously overrated. No need to repeat myself.

You're actually saying that Blondie have had more of a lasting impact in popular music than the Beatles, and with a straight face?

hmm, I can't seem to recall saying that at all, funnily enough? I'm saying that while you maybe be in the vast majority who feel the need to hail them as some sort of god's, there are those, like myself, you believe they simply a product of their time and had it not been them, it would have been somebody else.

Mrluvaluva 17-12-2009 09:20 PM

Everyone has different tastes. I have loads of Blondie stuff but hardly any Beatles. They are not the be all and end all of music. Blondie have been hugely influential in their own right and their music remains timeless.

So again, you're saying that Blondie are better and more important than them?

LemonJam 17-12-2009 09:22 PM

Beatles having a larger legacy doesn't make them better, just more popular and henceforth more influential. It's all down to taste.

Better or not is a matter of opinion.

I voted Beatles btw :p

And you basically said it all there in a nutshell. 1 or 2 good albums doesn't make a great band.

no actually I think you'll find I didn't mention Blondie what so ever. I just pointed out that not everyone thinks the Beatles are what music is about hence why those people will obviously vote Blondie. and - shock horror - some people actually prefer Blondie.

setanta 17-12-2009 09:28 PM

Don't get me wrong, Blondie are a good band but they're not in the same league as somebody like the Beatles.

Erm, they had more than 1 or 2 albums before Autoamerican. Which of their albums do you think were the only good ones then?

Ramsay 17-12-2009 09:32 PM

Blondie??
the only song i know by them is one way or another:laugh:

InOne 17-12-2009 09:33 PM

well then it's not really fair of you to question their presence in this competition, is it? Chances are you know more but not by name. Trying YTing Call Me, Heart Of Glass, Tide Is High, Rip Her To Shreds.

lily. 17-12-2009 09:35 PM

Blondie.

Parrallel Lines and Eat to the Beat. Plastic Letters is good too but they're really not in the same league as the Beatles. And there were other bands similar to them during that period anyway.

Shaun 17-12-2009 09:37 PM

it's only a TiBB poll, folks. we all know the beatles would win in the real world :p

Oh they can.

The question is: Which one do you prefer? not Which one was more influential or had a bigger impact on music?

So, since it's a question of taste, they can win.

So it seems my dear!

I'm astonished at some of the bands which went through and some of the ones which went out along the way, but I try to look at each vote on it's own.

I did say when GD went out, I wouldn't vote anymore, but Shaun torments me if I don't. He's evil like that.

Enid 17-12-2009 09:43 PM

Lili is right.

I listen to Blondie more than The Beatles.

GD went out far too early :(

Plastic Letters is my favourite Blondie album. Yes there were others like them, but Blondie stood out from the rest and have withstood the test of time. So are you saying there were no other bands similar to The Beatles at the time they were around?

MissKittyFantastico 17-12-2009 09:47 PM

Love them both but I grew up listening to The Beatles so my vote goes to them.

Not really no. The Beatles were head and shoulders above everybody else at that particular time, through the variety and wild experimentation found within their music. The were really unlike anyone else at that time and they marked a change in what was possible in popular music, with so many bands owing a debt of gratitude towards them. They gave newer bands the ticket to really open up and try anything.

Blondie were just a part of the new wave and punk bands that were coming out at that particular time and, although they're excellent musicians and had a wonderful lead singer, I don't think you can place them anywhere near The Beatles. And in any case, where the feck are the New York Dolls, Talking Heads, The Ramones, Human League etc etc? Oh, and Roxy Music. They were all of the same ilk as Blondie and many are, in my opion anyway, better.

Shaun 17-12-2009 09:54 PM

A little look at the bands they've destroyed along the way...

Blondie: Sex Pistols, Iron Maiden, UB40, Led Zeppelin, Bee Gees, ABBA, Muse, The Cure

Beatles: T. Rex, blink-182, Motorhead, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Nirvana, Oasis, Queen, The Who

Stu 17-12-2009 09:54 PM

The Beatles, by taste only of course .
