Are Charity singles completely selfless?
Do you think all the stars involved are wholeheartedly with the cause or do they like the idea of being seen as a saint and to create the persona of 'the good star'?
|
no joe i think they're just being nice.
|
A bit of both but there's also the benefit of promotion especially if this Haiti single makes an impact in America. I'd say most of the agendas behind it are that of good will though.
|
Why can't they just dig deep into their own pockets without forceing us to listen to this drivel.
I'm surprised Bono hasn't jumped on the bandwagon. |

As for the topic question, no doubt it's a mixture. Many people donate to charity and it's not selfless, even if they don't realise it. You may genuinly have the best intentions when you drop a pound in a beggars cup but it's also giving yourself a pat on the back and telling you what a great dude you are. |
Publicity purposes. Don't look any further. A few may be concerned by what's happening (George Clooney for example)

The public can still donate without buying the CD.It's not like no one knows it's happened. |

I think some of them actually do it for the charity but in my opinion most of them take part just for publicity!

Of Course Some Stars have no choice, if they are not in this Mega Music Cash in and Help they can be kicked to the background. |
Some will be 'being nice'...but I imagine most are doing it for the publicitiy...oooh look at me, Im selfless I did such and such very publicly for charity...
Sceptic? Moi?? |

Some celebrties may want the publicity etc.. but who cares, as long as they are raising money then that is all the matters. I know.. some celebrities could give a lot more.. the public could give a lot more but still millions of pounds has already been made. Celebrities want to still keep millions in their bank because they are used to their lifestyle and the joe average public.. well some could give more but it is wise to save money for yourself because of the recession and well it is good to have a safety net.

It depends who they are. I'd like to think TT are doing it just to be nice, cos they're on a holiday atm anyways,so they're not even meant to be working. And I doubt Gary climbed up a mountain just for publicity.
|
I think some celebs want to do something different, such as contribute in some kind of down to earth charitable event, which is a change to most of the celebrities busy schedules.

I think some celebs are very selfless but others such as Simon are only doing it to come across good

This reminds me of the charity system in Waitrose. You shop in their supermarket and they give you a little green token when you pay for your goods. With this token you're supposed to then choose out of three charities which one you think is most deserving of their money. Now I dunno about you, but I think this is just ****ed up. Firstly, we are meant to choose only one out of three good causes? What happens to the other two? Are they kicked to the curb? Secondly, Waitrose can most definitely afford to give out money to charity - all three in fact! This is just a ploy to make them seem more charitable. This is good for their image and that is all they are concerned about. Same could be said for these charity singles too. Oh how lovely of you Cheryl Cole, to donate some of OUR money to Haiti. You must be a very generous person. Oh and I assume you won't be taking any of that money for yourself or using this grandiose gesture to up your profile??

Oh I disagree to that choose a charity at Waitrose.. why not give a third of the money to each of the 3 charities? but hey ho! |

1% Over. If you think we are out of this New Labour Depresssion you are dreaming. We are going into a Double Dip Zone soon. A Top Football Club has just gone under due to banks. |
If they really cared about those unfortunate people, they'd donate money themselves. Instead, they **** about posing in music vids and really they couldn't care less.
They want to take a leaf out of actor John Travolta's book and GO OUT THERE THEMSELVES. John recently flew into the country with his plane full of food and medicine, with doctors and aid workers in tow. |
A lot of people don't realise that Simon Cowel only proposed this charity event because Gordon Brown told him to!
|
If people are pissed off with these "celebrities" then just don't buy the single. You should not have to feel inclined to purchase it. Celebrties do not personally know who you are anyway.
However the singles/albulm will sell a lot in the younger market. |
I think most people, well i'd like to hope so, can see past the shallowness of the whole thing.

Take for example Madonna who sung at the Haiti concert, She donated alot of money to the Haiti charity and actully helps the people in her charity Raising Malawi by building schools plus donates alot of money for her charity too.
A real icon and she sees where her money goes too. |
