Head of 'Five': "We are interested in CBB"

May not be the end after all!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-rad...r-channel-four

Five would be the perfect home. It couldn't work in the mainstream of ITV, and it couldn't work in the obscurity of Sky.

All the Live From Studio Five coverage makes sense.

But they're not interested in the main series, he thinks that has to go away for a while. But if they ran a 3 week CBB for a few years and then brought BB back in about 2015, it could work.

Hope to God its true

Hope Springs 29-01-2010 10:42 PM

Hope so!

Stacey. 29-01-2010 10:43 PM

:cheer: please, please, please, let this happen :)

Maia 29-01-2010 10:44 PM

I hope so!

Harry! 29-01-2010 10:44 PM

I really do hope so!

Jack_ 29-01-2010 10:44 PM

I'd rather them take on Big Brother too, but hey, this is understandable, and I guess one is better than nothing.

Sir_Diary_of_Roomus 29-01-2010 10:44 PM

Always thought CBB had a good chance of survival over the normal BB. It's shorter length i'm sure makes it a lot more appealing. Really hope Five pick it up.

WAYNEEBRUM 29-01-2010 10:45 PM

hmm

King Gizzard 29-01-2010 10:46 PM

But would they have the necassary budget to make it as good? I doubt it

BB_Eye 29-01-2010 10:47 PM

It's way better than nothing. But I would still prefer it if they opted for the main series instead.

Great news anyway. It will be nice to see Big Brother away from the claws of Channel 4.

Spike 29-01-2010 10:50 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if Five do pick CBB up, they have always been the most likely broadcaster to pick it up, especially with Richard as controller.
I would prefer the summer series to be saved over the celebrity version but i'm sure if Five do pick CBB up then the summer series would return after a few years rest

CBB is more attractive to broadcasters because if it all goes wrong on launch night then in theory they can put it right by signing up a big name and get it allover the papers then it should fix itself. But if BB goes wrong on launch night (and it did in BB8 and 10) then thats it, theres no saving it and it will be 3 months of bad ratings and a wasted investment.

Jack_ 29-01-2010 11:00 PM

Also, when I read the title I immidiately thought of the boyband Five :joker:

I hope CBB returns, the summer one needs a rest but after that then whoever decides to snap it up if that happens can get the show back to what made it great in the first place:).

MarkWaldorf 29-01-2010 11:06 PM

my only concern is that five is notorious for its extremely **** celeb line-ups/

Endemol will still be producing the show, it will be exactly the same show (unless Endemol change it) just on C5

Callum 29-01-2010 11:09 PM

Hopefully they do pick it up, I prefer the celebrity series' to be honest. The summer ones drag on forever and it can get boring quickly!

arista 29-01-2010 11:10 PM

Richard Woolfe, controller of Channel Five

Well Done Ch5.
It will boost there channel.

Well it's practically confirmed now then. You can always rely on DigitalSid

King Gizzard 29-01-2010 11:11 PM

So all the format would be EXACTLY the same, and same crew/setting? endemol runs all of it and not c4?

Zippy 29-01-2010 11:12 PM

Not sure what I think. I don't visit ch5 very often!

Well if they'd save over a million just axing Davina and the spin-offs are no longer necessary.

Axe Davina and half of the viewers go with her. I'd put everything on that

teabag. 29-01-2010 11:17 PM

NO NO NO NO NO!
Right, i am literally a hugantic fan of Big brother watched it from the very beginning religously but no way should they carry it onto another channel.
I want it to go out on a high.. not be killed off on another programme! No way.

Arneldo 29-01-2010 11:19 PM

*ahem*...NOOOOOO!!!!!!

(a) I can't get Five in Ireland and (b) C4 is it's HOME!

Patrick 29-01-2010 11:23 PM

Wouldnt mind it.

It just occured to me, if a channel did take just Celebrity Big Brother and if it did well then they might take the summer series on to after they do their first Celebrity Series.

But I really honestly think now if it rested for 3 Years or so, we would be out shopping one day and see in the newspapers..
'BBig Return' or 'BB Is Coming to get you' which would mean its been brought by another channel.

It would be amazing.

Tis True.

MusicMan 29-01-2010 11:23 PM

Qué será será at the end of the day
I hope it does continue coz I love it :D but I also hope that the new channel doesn't mess around with the format too much, just freshen it up a bit.
That being said, I guess I'd rather it go out on a high that it completely fail and shrivel away with no dignity intact on another channel.
Like I say, qué será será. We'll see.

I'm not saying I've heard anything, just that Media Guardian don't have a habit of making up stories like the tabloids.

If you hear anything to do with this please let us know ;)

Zippy 30-01-2010 01:30 AM

Without Davina it would be a different show.

Naah cant see it working on Five. People are just not in the habit of using that channel so it would just die a slow painful death. No true fan should want that.

Will do. Though I can't see any discussions, should they take place, starting till after the summer series is over with.

Would be great!

billy123 30-01-2010 02:28 AM

Im not really arsed what happens to CBB its the regular show that concerns me CBB has provided a few laughs and is ok but lacks lots of the qualitys that makes bb appealing mainly the obscene money they have to pay to get these "celebs" to take part do you honestly think a single one of them give a toss about "winning" they dont gain anything they couldnt care less if they leave on day 1 or day 25 they get paid the same to me cbb has never had the appeal of the regular show.

i would happily see cbb die if it meant the regular show could go on.

I'd rather one than neither, plus the chances of the summer series returning in a few years are better if the celebrity one continues than if it doesn't.

aye i guess there is that way of looking at it sid and to keep it on a positive note the survival of bb uk does look a fair bit brighter now than it did before cbb7.
so onwards and upwards
