Yeah but I have movies where people die all the time. And it works for the story but I just didn't see why she had to die! It was stupid.

setanta 15-02-2010 01:03 PM

Yeah, Breaking the Waves is tough. I'd go for Requiem for a Dream too.

30stone 15-02-2010 01:05 PM

The green mile.
Its sad not depressing though i think.

Jack_ 15-02-2010 01:06 PM

Superbad

30stone 15-02-2010 01:08 PM

one who flew over the cukoo's nest

SocietyIsRuined 15-02-2010 01:10 PM

Requiem For A Dream is one of my favourite films of all time but also one of the most depressing ever made. It needs to be to tell that story.

I was thinkng of that whilst posting but after watching it again for the umpteenth time the other day, it is quite humourous. A lot of scenes have comedy in them, it's only the end which is depressing.

Jack_ 15-02-2010 01:11 PM

I was joking with Superbad

What is the point of nicely packaged happy little endings - that have no bearing on reality?

Shaun 15-02-2010 04:20 PM

The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas...I was left numb by the end lmao.

GypsyGoth 15-02-2010 04:38 PM

Revolutionary Road affected me a lot.

King Gizzard 15-02-2010 04:40 PM

Rugrats in Paris

Iceman 15-02-2010 04:40 PM

To Kill A Mocking Bird, The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption.....

InOne 15-02-2010 05:08 PM

The Magdelane Sisters

really? I see it more uplifting :S I guess the parts of Brooks and Tommy are quite sad.

King Gizzard 15-02-2010 05:48 PM

Bit where the little fat guy gets beaten to near death upset me in that film

Escapism.

What relevance has Die Hard got to real life? If your corporate building is taken over by German uberterrorists, when in doubt use the ventilation shafts?

Beastie 15-02-2010 05:52 PM

Bambai, The Lion King, Ghost.

I thought he WAS beaten to death :s well, I think it's said he dies later in hospital

Wildcat! 15-02-2010 05:54 PM

For me its "LIFE". It was a comedy, but to me, it was completely depressing. At the end of the day, the 2 guys stayed in Jail their whole lives for a crime they didnt commit. I found it really depressing.

Stu 15-02-2010 05:58 PM

Oh I forgot to answer the topic ...

Blow. Even if she did visit him in prison afterwards [I had to check on Wikipedia to ease my mind] it's still very depressing stuff. Especially the bit where his daughter is sitting on her suitcase outside the house.

setanta 15-02-2010 06:02 PM

Alot of hyped up flicks that amount to very little really depress me. You know, ones like Spiderman 3, Terminator 3 and 4 etc.

Tom4784 15-02-2010 06:04 PM

Grave of the Fireflies is heartbreaking. Requiem For a Dream is another one as well.

IheartBB 15-02-2010 06:45 PM

A recent example for me would be The Road. Seriously bleak.

I think there's confusion between sad and depressing going on in this thread thus far.

I enjoyed it though. Same as I did with The Proposition which is another depressing film.

Smithy 15-02-2010 07:19 PM

The Diary of Anne Frank

bitch complained about everything

arsenalforever 15-02-2010 10:23 PM

Lilya 4 ever

MrGaryy 15-02-2010 11:03 PM

My Girl is pretty gut wrenching.

@Shaun, the end of the film had me in floods of tears, but more out of the atmosphere. The outcome didn't upset me terribly because I had read the book already [though it is very different to the film]

Iceman 15-02-2010 11:06 PM

Forest Gump was quite depressing......loads of highs and lows.....

also I agree with Stu about BLOW, end of that movie really made me think of things differently and stop doing stuff because I didnt wanna end up like him....

NettoSuperstar! 18-02-2010 12:53 PM

Just watched Precious the other day, wowsers!

Captain.Remy 18-02-2010 01:04 PM

Requiem for a Dream.
