It's because it's the day before Lent. And so people would make pancakes to use up the food they wouldn't be eating for Lent.

I've had banana and nutella on them in a pancake place in paris. It's delish.

You guys put all kinds of **** on pancakes. well for me, just blueberry pancakes, with butter of course, and lots of "Aunt Jemina" Sypup. Yummm...
