Why do serial killers get tribute videos?

Sort of the topic on another thread, what is it about this 'sick' admiration?

ILoveTRW 01-03-2010 03:27 PM

Myra Hindley <------ Idol

Crimson Dynamo 01-03-2010 03:39 PM

I could murder a bowl of Just Right

does that count me in?

WOMBAI 01-03-2010 03:44 PM

Weird people - like the stupid kind of women that write to murderers and somethimes marry them. Often these women - look exclusively for these type of men - because they have their own problems!

Get in there!!! Would help if you were into necrophilia also though ;)

Niamh. 01-03-2010 03:52 PM

Morbid curiosity, I would imagine, I hate those kind of things though

Enid 01-03-2010 03:55 PM

I'm fascinated by The Columbine Massacre, probably because they were just seemingly ordinary kids like me and you. They also liked KMFDM. :D

I think that's pretty much a large part of it. I remember reading that the american media sometimes inadvertedly glamourised certain killers so maybe that adds to it as well. I don't get the adoration myself, it's rather peculiar.

I can understand being interested on a psychological lovel since it must be fascinating to see why someone would act like that and see how they tick and such.

World War III, be all that you can be.

KMFDM and Doom. Two lads after my own heart.

Also I imagine if you are, like these two, hell bent misantrophists, someone like Hitler would be somewhat of a role model, hence the worship.

Also, killers are charismatic. Evil stuff can be charismatic. And stupid people can be duped into believing in it through sheer power of imagery. See : The Third Reich.

While on subject, Marilyn Manson got his name from Charles Manson and Marilyn Monroe, noting the dual celebrity status they held.

I guess the term 'charismatic killer' can show how shallow some people can be. I mean, women want to marry and do marry these people lol

They have achieved a negative award. Many are negative in this world.

Zippy 01-03-2010 04:21 PM

Serial killers are all kinds of fascinating. I love documentaries about them.

Saddest one was that Pakistani guy who killed possibly hundreds of homeless boys. There was a shot of all their sandals piled up in his home! Just the most horrible sight.

Ross 01-03-2010 04:35 PM

Wow I just read the whole report on Columbine High School massacre. Really shocking stuff. I felt like crying reading it.

InOne 01-03-2010 04:36 PM

Bowling for Columbine is a gread film

Yep, I love the psychology behind it all

Crimson Dynamo 01-03-2010 04:38 PM

What is a serial killer tribute video btw?

I don't think of it as positive or negative, good or evil. In my eyes serial killers feed the natural chaos that festers within every human being; the animalist and anarchic qualities that we have all learned to control but still need some kind of outlet for. That's why the lives of serial killers will always hold such a fascination for us - they seem to have abandoned all normal civilized behaviour and walked down a path seldom tread by anyone. What they actually did - hideous, savage acts of violence - is irrelevent..... I think it's their descent into darkness that continually fascinates people.

Yeah, also makes me wonder why serial killers are so rare

Well we have artists and writers and people who wander off into the wilderness too, you know? So many examples of people who've raged against the machine, but none in such an extreme and horrific manner as serial killers.

Yeah indeed, well they live out their fantasies cos of the psychopathic nature. They don't have the breaks that stops normal people from thinking about it.

Exactly. And sure most artists and great writers were a little loopy too, but obviously not to the same extent. Anyone who pushes boundaries has to be a little bit on the edge.... that's why you see so many comedians/songwriters falling into the abyss with drink and drugs etc. Oh, and by the way, I'm not trying to make a connection here with artists and serial killers!! Serial killers didn't act in the way they did to better mankind in any way.

You have to admit Myra's and Ian's mugshots are iconic , Like it or not.

Not iconic just a reminder of how evil the human heart can turn out if starved of love in early life.

She became lesbian behind the bars because she was in a all female unit. I reckon she could of got out if the legal system wasnt so harsh. Afterall it was Brady who did the killings more then Hindley.

I may sound odd being a 15 year old knowing about her but it is good to know and that book I read was quite interesting.

She was as bad really, she should have never been let out, you could hear her laughing in some of the tapes. She was as much of a sadist as Brady.

Pretty much, odd you find two sadists hooking up though, guess that is why the crimes were so horrific.

Ever seen Natural Born Killers? That was about the media's glorification of serial killers. Really good film.
