I didnt say I liked it, thing is art is in the eye of the beholder. If you dont like it dont buy into it. There are good works of art and there are some dross. For example didnt buy into Emin's or a lot off Hirsts stuff. Sometimes its to make an underlying point or statement as opposed to being pleasing to the eye.

By that definition then anything is art and thus art ceases to be something or anything?

Hey, Art is subjective and while I find certain new exhibits distasteful I still enjoy viewing them and exploring the emotional and intellectual reactions they elicit from me. Art at it's best should stimulate you in many different ways depending on the piece in question.

Do I think some are crap? Yes. Do I still think there's value in them? Absolutely. Creativity is an essential component of human nature and we learn so much about ourselves from viewing works from our past and present.

I never said that and trust you to reduce my comments to a rallying call for your own sentiments. You're quite boring at times LT.

You're trying to incite me into a reaction here and it's simply not going to work. Continue posting inane little comments if you want but I stupidly enough thought there may have been an opportunity to engage in some interesting discourse here: unfortunately for me I didn't look to see who had opened the thread at the time.

Shaun 02-03-2010 03:19 PM

What do you consider to be good art, then?

Braden 02-03-2010 03:25 PM

I find it all attractive to look at.

Nah, the final curtain would have been drawn long ago on your little act if it were art.

Interesting discourse might happen when you hit 12. Not there yet.

That's not your definition, it's a generic quote containing an entirely abstract definition that was made more to sound nice than offer up a technical definition of what art is. But whatever, I'll play you at your own game :

So on what grounds is the picture in question not art then? Was there no collaboration between god and the artist on that one? How do you know this?
