Tattoos - Yay or Nay?

I was just wondering what people on the forum think of tattoos are some people love them and some hate them.

Personally I like them but I could never get one as my parents really hate them :|

Opinions?

Stacey. 05-04-2010 04:30 PM

dont mind them.
they look good. :)
but too many doesnt.

Braden 05-04-2010 04:32 PM

They look so attractive!

I hate big ones that biker men usually have but other than that, I think there quite lovley to look at :)

Ninastar 05-04-2010 04:33 PM

Same as you cara. I'm told that if I get one they will kick me out if the house. Pmsl sorry but how sad! It's my body!

ILoveTRW 05-04-2010 04:37 PM

Subtle ones look good

Jack_ 05-04-2010 04:41 PM

I'm not really fussed either way, but I don't like people that are covered in them, especially women.

I don't think I could get one myself either, it's the pain that I fear.

Captain.Remy 05-04-2010 04:44 PM

Hell yeah ! It's been an obsession of mine since I was 16. Got my first tattoo at 16, the second one at 18. Also had my first piercing at 15. I am that obsessed that the tattooist I have been to is one of my closest friends.

I don't like people who get tattoos because "it's kool lawl". I believe tattoos should have a personal meaning, something you'll keep forever and means something. But that's just my view after all.
My parents did struggle a bit with it, mostly my mum because my dad has one, but they actually were not surprised because I kept asking them for ages, they knew it wasn't just a trendy thing because my tattoos make a lot of sense, maybe not to others, but to me they do.

pinkmichk 05-04-2010 04:49 PM

i love them both on me and on others i currently have 13 and they all have meanings behind them apart from 2
i'm 26 an my mum still goes nuts when i get new one my dad is cool (but then he has lots himself so cant say much)

Jords 05-04-2010 04:56 PM

Dont mind them, just not too many or ones you would regret when youre older :]

CaraRawr 05-04-2010 05:00 PM

what ones do everyone have?

and yeah i'd only get one if it had a meaning to me, i'd love to get the 30STM triad tattooed on me when i'm older.

MissKittyFantastico 05-04-2010 05:04 PM

Love them, if they are well done and mean something.

Princess 05-04-2010 05:05 PM

A lot of them are lovely but some people can go overboard.

Ninastar 05-04-2010 05:07 PM

Sometimes the can be tacky. I would only want one or two small ones. Either on my lower back, wrist or shoulder.

Enid 05-04-2010 05:11 PM

I have a couple on my chest.

Princess 05-04-2010 05:11 PM

Argeed with everyone saying they should mean something, there's no point to them otherwise. Anyone ever watch LA or Miami Ink? Everyone has a story.

I love them shows

Callum 05-04-2010 05:13 PM

Nay. Not a fan of them, I hate thinking of having a wrist tattoo done. Plus when your older and all wrinkly etc. your not still going to love it are you.

Enid 05-04-2010 05:14 PM

Why should every tattoo need to have a meaning?

Stu 05-04-2010 05:16 PM

I agree with the people who said they should mean something, or at least be thought provoking or humorous in some manner. If I'm getting something under my skin for life, I'll be damned if it's a generic tribal picked out from the wall of the tattoo shop that plenty of other people have.

Now to overcome my fear ...

GypsyGoth 05-04-2010 05:17 PM

Some of them look great. I'd love to get one.

Braden 05-04-2010 05:18 PM

If I were to get a tattoo, I would get it to look at something attractive, not one that means something to me.

Enid 05-04-2010 05:18 PM

It's never as bad as you think it will be. Obviously it depends where. On the bone is pretty painful, but fleshy parts are fine. It actually tickles more than anything.

Enid 05-04-2010 05:21 PM

Well, obviously if you're gonna get something generic or something picked out of the tattoo books, that's pretty dumb. I believe you should only get tats you designed yourself. At least then if it doesn't really necessarily mean something, it is your own art. The body is a blank canvas. Shame to waste it. :)

Mine on the chest was so easy, I didn't feel anything. However I did feel a bit for the one on my back shoulder because it's right on the bone. But then it's all good, you don't die from it.

My friend tattooist told me the most hurtful places were under the feet and the elbow. I cannot even imagine how it feels like.

But then I believe I will end up with a dozen of them

This tbh.

Zippy 05-04-2010 05:22 PM

Why does it need meaning? They are usually for show so obviously theyre for aesthetic reasons mostly. Most are just designs the person likes. No meaning whatsoever.

Ones with true meaning should be discreet.

My liking depends totally on how good they look. Naff ones just make me cringe and pity the person.

I was going to answer to your post about the meaning but then I saw you made this one. I agree, as long as it's from your own imagination, it's cool because it still has a meaning, whether you want it or not. I drew mine but then I'm not a good draftsman so my friend helped me out but they still are from my mind.

Well then it will mean something to you because you designed it. That's what I meant, just getting a generic design would be totally meaningless and loads of other people would have the same. I'd want something personal to me that noone else would have :)

Well it's generally frowned upon to get tats on the feet anyway, because the healing process takes much longer and obviously wearing socks and shoes can "smudge" the tat.

But a tat on the sole of the foot. OUCH!

Who says it's all for show ? To me it isn't. I wanted my tattoos because I needed to. And plus, I've made them in covered places because not only it's not something to "show off" but also because of my work. And there are more people who do that than you think, the "I want to get a tattoo because it's hot" people annoy me because they'll probably end up regretting it. A tattoo is personal.

Sophii3x 05-04-2010 05:33 PM

Not that fussed.. don't think I'll ever get one though. They look great on some people but o others they usually look a bit tacky, especially the big ott tatoos or having lots in the same place. They usually look better on men I think, the ones my ex has are so hot.

I really don't get people who tattoo their names on themselves or their date of births.. so stupid, haha!

Smithy 05-04-2010 05:34 PM

As long as they don't look tacky I don't mind them

Why should ones with meaning be discreet? So that if they look naff the person doesn't have to have the almighty pitying them?

pinkmichk 05-04-2010 05:45 PM

some of mine that have meaning you wouldnt know unless i told you what they were the meaning is personnal to me as the person wearing the art i have various different meanings and reasons behind some of mine

Princess 05-04-2010 05:50 PM

Well yeah Enid, designing them is the same as them meaning something. It's not going into a shop and thinking one is pretty or cool or whatever and getting it.

My tattoos I designed myself, have no real meaning to them. They don't represent anything, they don't have any story to 'em. I just think they look awesome. :)

Mrluvaluva 05-04-2010 06:59 PM

I have one. I had it done many many years ago. Never regretted having it done and it has kept its colour well. I don't see anything wrong in them. It's up to the individual.

Twilight 05-04-2010 07:28 PM

I love them on guys, they look so hot. But the most i'd ever get would be a little one on my arm or something:P

30stone 05-04-2010 08:07 PM

Have just the one.
