Problem...

Right.. Well, I'm not scared of much. I would happily camp on a forest alone... I like all kinds of scary animals... Horrors don't even make me flinch, but the one thing I am absolutely petrified of is theme park rides and rollercoasters. I don't know why, it just does. Anyway - my uncle has only gone and booked tickets for us to go to Alton towers on the Tuesday coming up and he loves all sorts of rides. I have never been to Alton towers before and I don't want to seem like a bore so I was just wondering whether there are any tips you could give me on overcoming my fear and if anyone has been to Alton towers, is it still enjoyable if you're not going on the huge rides?

Jessica. 04-05-2010 10:44 PM

I don't have a clue, I am terrified of them too. I went to Wales just to go to a theme park and I didn't have the courage to go on anything!

Novo 04-05-2010 10:45 PM

Just don't look down because if you do you will fall

\PJ/ 04-05-2010 10:46 PM

i like the big rides, but i know lots of people do get scared of them.
Just dont look down though!!

Iceman 04-05-2010 10:48 PM

make sure you dont pull your barrier down....it takes away from the ride !!!!!!!

Lewis. 04-05-2010 10:49 PM

I think it is one of those things where once you've taken the first step and done it... You won't want to stop. I just wish that I had the courage to take the first step

Claymores 04-05-2010 10:49 PM

I'm scared of heights lewis - so the Big One rollercoister scares the sh!t out of me at Blackpool, Most things @ Alton Towers are low and wild so you'll have a great time

Callum 04-05-2010 10:50 PM

It can still be fun but the big rides are part of the experience in my opinion.

I know and I really don't want to skip that experience nut I'm scared s-itless to day the least

MrGaryy 04-05-2010 10:54 PM

Distract yourself in the queue or else you'll be way to psyched up for it. Then once it takes off it will be this IMMENSE rush and then it will be over and you'll be addicted :P

That's the only problem... I naturally worry about anything and anyone. but thanks for the advice :) I get what you mean about the rush... That is bound to happen... I'm deffo going to try most of the rides - even if I do vomit up thy days breakfast. :/

Man Up Lewis!

I've never been on a rollercoaster or anything like that. Bloody hell I went on a banana boat once and it was pertifying! Go on rides if you feel you want to get over the fear but if you don't,just find something else to do all day.

ButterflyGirl 05-05-2010 11:39 AM

There are a lot of scary rides at Alton Towers tbh , I got dragged on the Oblivion though and I just closed my eyes and it wasn't that bad.

Enid 05-05-2010 11:46 AM

I went to Alton Towers a few years ago. Terrified of heights. Went on Nemesis and Oblivion. Have to say, it is a lot less scary than you think. I remember queuing up for Oblivion and watching that sudden drop. I was sh!tting myself and REALLY didn't wanna do it. Then that slow climb up to the top at a 75 degree angle and worrying about slipping out of the harness. That was the worst bit for me. The ride itself only lasts a few seconds. Once it's over, you think "well that wasn't so bad". Just go for it or you'll regret it afterwards.

Beastie 05-05-2010 12:06 PM

Go on Hex.. it is like a haunted house.. and you sit on the bench.. and there is a big tree in the middle of the room lol. It's good. Also you could go on this slow ride.. with carts made of squirrels and also the train and log flumes! :D

Beastie 05-05-2010 12:06 PM

I say just go on them all Lewis.. if you are scared just close your eyes all the way through!!

Beastie 05-05-2010 12:07 PM

Oh you can also go on the Willy Wonka Chocolate Ride.. that is slow paced.. lol and also pop onto the swings!

Lucy. 05-05-2010 12:16 PM

Get drugged up before hand.

Crimson Dynamo 05-05-2010 12:25 PM

Your fear is based on a lack of knowledge and experience

it is not based on facts or experience

once you work that out you realise that if you go on say 2-3 rides your irrational fear vanishes

simples

I hate big rides and rollercoasters, petrified of them and I had the exact same problem around 5 years ago when I found out we were going to Alton Towers. When I was there I hardly went on anything, was too scared so sticked with the kiddie rides, lmfao! Though my dad pushed me to try to go on Air.. we queued for like 2 hours and the ride broke down before it was our turn- I was so happy!

Hope you have fun though!

Firewire 05-05-2010 05:20 PM

OK so last year, I was scared too. But we went to a theme park with the school last year I went on them and it felt amazing.

zotler. 05-05-2010 06:33 PM

Big rides scare me too, heights scare the **** out of me, but I'm more scared of the feeling you get. I've been on them before, but the way your stomach jumps and how pumped you get scares me so bad all I can think about is the ride/rollercoaster breaking and me falling out. I remember going on one of those weird pirate ship type things but it went really high and then back down really quickly and I was ****ting myself because my hands were slipping and I thought I was going to fall out, so I was shouting at the girl who was sitting next to me. BUT, it's all worth it for the after feeling.

"Help, HELP HELP OH MY GOD I'M GONNA FALL OUT" and she was like "Calm down, Zoe" she was practically chillaxing on it. It was freaking me out when people were at the top and they would raise their hands in the air I was like "NO! You'll fall"

Anyway, the feeling during the rides is horrible for me... But the feeling when you get off is amazing, like a head rush and if it was a good one your legs go all wobbly but it makes you feel wild. ;D. I'm too chicken to go on most rides, though. It takes a lot to convince me.

That reminds me of this once, I forgot the ride but it was spinning round really quickly that I lost my breath and I was pinching my friend really hard, and after we got off he was like "Oh yeah, did you pinch my hand? o.O" That one was really awesome because there was no heights to freak me out, just mega speed... Yah, anyway. Go for it, close your eyes if heights **** ya.

I'm not joking. Get drunk and it might not be all that bad.

Beso 06-05-2010 08:52 AM

Just remember to smile for the camera, it takes your mind of the mess in your undercrackers.

Niamh. 06-05-2010 09:40 AM

I close my eyes and keep them closed till its over, at least you cant see whats happening then!
