This evening's episode of Coronation Street has been pulled from the schedules out of respect for those who died during today's shooting tragedy in Cumbria.

All this week, Corrie has dominated the 9pm slot on ITV1 with its siege storyline, featuring Tony Gordon's escape from prison.

However, owing to today's tragedy, in which a gunman shot 12 people dead and injured 25, the commercial broadcaster has decided to shelve tonight's instalment.

More soon.

just a bit more,

would be insesitive to air it tonight.

Scarlett. 02-06-2010 05:26 PM

I hope they put tommorows Emmerdale tonight, then put tonights Corrie in Emmerdale's slot

Tom4784 02-06-2010 05:26 PM

It'll get shown tommorow or Friday, it just means there'll be a double bill on one of those days. Fans won't have to worry about ITV not showing it at all.

Scarlett. 02-06-2010 05:27 PM

I wish they'd have announced this a bit sooner

yeah that would be the most logical thing to do especially with BGT being on

Probably needed to get execs into a meeting, then inform ITV, then figure out what to do.....plus this story is still unfolding so dont go too bad on them.....

Scarlett. 02-06-2010 05:29 PM

WTF, they've replaced it with TV Burp!? :s why? that means tommrows Emmerdale might be moved or we're gonna get the finale of Corrie on monday

Mrluvaluva 02-06-2010 05:29 PM

Harry Hills best bits are on.

Spike 02-06-2010 05:30 PM

I would be annoyed if I was a Coronation Street viewer.
Maybe i'm insensitive but surely people can tell the difference between a soap storyline and reality, okay that storyline might be similar to the reality at the moment but that's just a very unfortunate coincidence. A warning before Coronation Street aired tonight that some people may find it upsetting would be better.
This very important week for ITV is turning into a bit of a disaster.

Aye, I feel the same. Sorry, but a fictional storyline in a soap opera bares no relevance to real-life occurences, it's just coincidental.

What a ridiculous decision placing TV Burp in there too. Christ ITV are stupid.

Aye, its gonna be messed up, they'll probably bump Friday's Emmerdale

Scarlett. 02-06-2010 05:32 PM

Now they're not even announcing when the next one will be shown! Thanks a lot ITV, we havent been looking forward to this weeks lot of episodes for months or anything

Not really, its just because there is a gun involved, Tony's hardly driving around Weatherfield shooting people

Yeah but theyre playing the safe game, which they have to TV has become too PC in recent years with complaints about minor things....

Spike 02-06-2010 05:35 PM

I bet ITV get more complaints for not showing it that they would if they did. I can understand why ITV have done this but its still a bad decision. A warning before the episode would have been fine. I think they are insulting the viewers intelligence by pulling it.
There is talk that Corrie could go out on Saturday to wrap up the week.

Scarlett. 02-06-2010 05:36 PM

True

I'm mostly pissed off about ITV not even telling us when the next one is on

Jack_ 02-06-2010 05:37 PM

It would make sense to have the finale on Saturday really.

It'd coincide with the BGT Final [though I haven't looked at schedules for that yet], and so it'd all fit together.

Iceman 02-06-2010 05:37 PM

This was the first time id watched since xmas and now im annoyed, but becuase not a regular viewer it wont affect me, can see why you guys are though.

True, lets hope they go with that

OK but a Gun
on this sad day with 12 or more dead
would be wrong.

Spike 02-06-2010 05:42 PM

If ITV do show it on Saturday then the last 30mins of BGT will go out after 10pm and people under 16 (I think) can't be on TV after that time. So ITV would either have to get special permission to do that or pre-record the last 30mins of BGT, which sounds like too much trouble for ITV. The sensible thing would have been to do 2 episodes of Emmerdale tonight and then 2 episodes of Corrie tomorrow.

I suppose, its just annoying that they announced they were pulling it 3 hours before its on

Jack_ 02-06-2010 05:43 PM

Just looked at Saturday schedules and it's as follows:

18:00 - 18:30: You've Been Framed
18:30 - 19:30: The Whole 19 Yards
19:30 - 22:00: Britain's Got Talent: The Final
22:00 - 23:00: Batman Begins

Very surprised at how the BGT Final is all in one show. It's quite a tight schedule and I can't really see them scrapping any of that.

They could push Batman Begins back to 22:30 and have Corrie on after BGT, but I think it'd make more sense (if possible) for them to split BGT up and have it like this:

18:00 - 18:30: You've Been Framed
18:30 - 19:30: The Whole 19 Yards
19:30 - 21:30: Britain's Got Talent: The Final [Part 1]
21:30 - 22:00: Coronation Street
22:00 - 22:30: Britain's Got Talent: The Final [Part 2]

Though again in saying that, I think there are restrictions with forbid the minors on BGT from appearing any later than 22:00. ITV are ****ed.

Yes but the News was not in Full until after 5PM
So they have this right.

Sky and FreesatHD Shows the changes
But Virgin does not it - still says its on
as virgin EPG is not up to it.

Jack_ 02-06-2010 05:48 PM

Actually, it appears the YBF episode is a repeat, so they could scrap that, push The Whole 19 Yards back to 18:00 - 19:00 and have Corrie on from 19:00 - 19:30. But does the content during the episode permit it to be shown before the watershed?

Scarlett. 02-06-2010 05:48 PM

they could pull YBF

Stu 02-06-2010 05:51 PM

What a riddiculous decision. Plenty of action movies are on the movie channels tonight, as are plenty of other broadcasts involving people shooting other people.

I don't understand this specific concept of 'insensitive'. Insensitive would be showing up to the victims funerals with a watergun full of piss. Airing a show that happens to feature a loose gunman is not insensitive. It's coincidence.

I can't even wrap my head around it. I mean ... how could it offend someone? It's make believe?

ITV know what they are doing, and they are smart for doing it. They know it wont offend either, but some schmucks with nothing better to do would be dying to give ofcom a call, causing trouble for both the show and the network.

Princess 02-06-2010 05:52 PM

It's good of ITV but I think people can tell the difference between fiction and reality. Shootings happen in America all the time, the Grey's Anatomy finale
Spoiler:

had a crazy gunman raiding the hospital and killing and shooting loads of people,it never would have got pulled

Well said, especially about action movies

Plus the families of those dead wont give a **** about Coronation Street, I doubt they'd all be sat around, watching it, it's being pulled because some media twats would complain and bombard ITV with abuse

Shaun 02-06-2010 06:00 PM

-is only offended by its bad acting -

Scarlett. 02-06-2010 06:00 PM

It has been suggested that Corrie may air at 9pm and 10pm on Friday

Im so fckin pissed off now  They have completely ruined siege week now,They better put the missed episode on Saturday between the BGT final or else I will fckin shoot someone

Firewire 02-06-2010 06:26 PM

Just heard about this, it's a shame that it's been cancelled, but it's in respect to the shootings.
