Lord of the Rings

I dare anyone to find a set of movies more overrated than these 3.

The best one was the Twin Towers and it was nothing special.

Lee. 19-09-2010 01:47 AM

I need to give them another go I think... I went to see the first one in the cinema and fell fast asleep! (I have never understood, given the volume how people can sleep in the cinema) I was sound asleep for pretty much the whole film and woke up slavering on my friends husband's shoulder. hahaha

From what I did see, it was pretty boring but I am keeping an open mind and will give them another go at some point :)

They are BORING. It took me 2 days to watch the first one. I kept pausing it, because it was making me so damn sleepy. The same thing happened for the other 2. What makes it even worse, they are 3 hours long, all three of them. :nono:

Lee. 19-09-2010 02:11 AM

Haha.. I think I'll read the books.. everyone says they're better than the films!

IheartBB 19-09-2010 03:01 PM

As a series - yes, horrifically overrated. Although I reckon that The Return of the King was the strongest in the trilogy and The TWO Towers was the duffer - the equivalent of The Return of the Jedi in the Star Wars series.

Tom4784 19-09-2010 03:24 PM

They are overrated, I like them but they aren't films you can watch again, they just take up so much time.

Couldn't agree more. 11 long hours of non-stop banality.

It's difficult to say. The books were also tedious, but at least they never included lines like "lets hunt some orc!". :conf2:

MTVN 19-09-2010 03:37 PM

Watched the first one, hated it, and have never seen the other two. I have no intention to either.

Haha.. I'm actually glad there's obviously other people who feel like I do. I've always wondered how my friends huband and I could be the only ones on the planet to be bored ****less by it! lol

You mean 'The Two Towers' rather than 'Twin Towers'? So many reviewers got that wrong at the time lol.

First one is probably the best because all the characters were together and it had a mix of all sorts but is still overrated. Third was the worst. It had great action but some of the characters were barely used and the last 20 minutes were just LONG.

Other overrated films are The Dark Knight (still love it but it is flawed), and most of Spielberg's films (always about parental abandonment issues), Avatar (great CGI but weak plot), Star Wars series (first 2 are ok but altogether it's like a sci-fi political thriller with camp undertones, annoying creatures and hammy lines thrown in), and the Halloween series (first one is iconic and critics loved that Michael Myers had no motive other than being a creepy 'boogeyman' but that makes it just random, and then the sequel made him her brother? Weak)

I wish you all the very best lol. Remember to have regular potty breaks and occasionally stretch your legs for a bite.

Jords 19-09-2010 11:00 PM

Very overrated.

I find them quite boring tbh, way too long, although I do like The Hobbit.

Can't wait for the Hobbit to be released. Should be a cracker.

Shaun 19-09-2010 11:05 PM

I've never liked this whole kind of fantasy area. Space, I can understand. Wizards, fine.

But all this goblins, walking trees, kind of stuff...totally bores me.

Three movies of people walking. Classic.

Although, I have to say that I like them, not love them though. The only one I really loved was the Fellowship. Fantastic film.

Iceman 19-09-2010 11:14 PM

So does anyone know if Jackson is doing the Hobbit? Or are they even doing the Hobbit anymore?

It's basically a 9 hour long buddy movie. Frodo and Sam, Merry and Pippin, Legolas and 'Nobody tosses a dwarf' Gimli.

The first one had heart and a great flow to it. I suppose it boils down to the fact that it was always my fave part of the book too.

Didn't realise that Guillermo del Toro had pulled out. That's a shame.

I think my dad would agree with that. He rewatches the first 2 hours of The Fellowship at any opportunity but the moment Gandalf goes, out comes the DVD

Yeah it seems to be moving very slowly or at a complete hault.

I'm still waiting for the Dog Soldiers sequel and Meg -expected to be the film of 2008 lol

30stone 19-09-2010 11:41 PM

I rarely use this word, but Lord of the Rings is epic.

More over-rated films? One word, Twilight.

I have never seen Twilight but my mate was curious so he watched it and his feedback was "Teenage girl moves home, meets a vampire, they do ****** all for the first hour, then play baseball and some evil vampires randomly attack them." Is that honestly all it is?

How on Earth can anyone like that? What are the other 3 about lol? The emotional hardship of Bella deciding her heart belongs with Robert Pattinson or dog boy?
