The North Wests famous creative center, Granada TV (now known as ITV Studios) has had it's sign removed after 55 years

Awww, I see that everytime I get the train to manchester
|
^ Same! When I was younger and used to go my Mum would say "Look out for the Granada sign"
Awh :( |
Why??
Are they shutting down? OMG NO THEY BROUGHT ME THE BEST SHOW OF MY ******ING CHILD HOOD I TELL YOU! http://www.posters.ws/images/357890/...are_aliens.jpg |

Only because the child was black Harry, racist :nono:

It went downhill once they ditched all the kids and added a new bunch. Brian was a legend though  |

http://sharetv.org/images/my_parents...uk/cj-char.jpg I prior to posting y original post did not know his name, But did not describe him as Smithy rightly pointed out someone would make a remark. |
No way  That sign always metaphorically said "you are now in Manchester" and Granada Reports will never be the same again without the neon sign in the darkness :(
The original My Parents Are Aliens was loads better, the original Sophie was better http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41fwX5KaE3L.jpg |

The other one was abit strict lol The first Sophie's voice was hilarious. |
apparently it was due to 'health and safety' as if someone is going to get hit by a giant letter G as they're crossing Quay Street
If they were really extensively corroded then they wouldn't be working and they'd want to replace it I bet this logo goes up soon http://www.anotherlevelmedia.co.uk/w...009/09/itv.jpg  new picture on MEN site http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereven...hester_studios |
I hope they leave it, you can still make out "Granada TV" in the dirt xD
|
Harry was the fifth member to the family and was also on Over the rainbow, and came fourth :)
|
|
Thats a shame, hopefully they will replace it but the orginal would of been better staying as its been there for 50 years. I wish they would open that place up to the public again I loved it there.
I see they changed the old studio entrance too before http://www.flickr.com/photos/paperpa...22841700126/#/ now http://www.flickr.com/photos/paperpariah/4616270075/ |

This was only a matter of time. |
That's actually really sad :(
I remember when I first came up to Manchester, getting all excited when I saw the Granada sign and saying 'ahhhh that's where they film Corrie..omg that's amazing!!' R.I.P Granada :( |
Am I the only one who doesn't care about this?
|
^must be a northern thing

It's kinda like a cultural thing, Manchester has changed a lot in 50 years, but the one thing that has been there throughout is the Granada sign/building :p
|
Quote:
ITV region has always been much more popular than the BBC region up here and Granada has been the main ITV 'base' up here too producing some of their most successful shows and its one of the only places to do so north of London. Its kind of a cultural thing |
Is the other one on the side of the building still there?
http://i1023.photobucket.com/albums/...ranada1997.jpg |
No doubt they have removed that
Corrie trivia; The bridge beside the Rovers was built to hide that sign :p |
^ The magic bridge?
|
lol that's the one :p
|
The sign will be repaired and replaced back atop the building!
