Did Vera's spirit come to Jack or was it a dying memory?

Well, this is the one scene in Corrie where the audience can decide what happened, was it really Vera's spirit who came to collect her dead husband or was it just nothing more than the final thought in Jack's mind?

Smithy 08-11-2010 10:02 PM

Memory IMO, you don't get a bus to heaven

MissKittyFantastico 08-11-2010 10:04 PM

Her spirit I believe anyway.

Iceman 08-11-2010 10:04 PM

Her spirit

Novo 08-11-2010 10:05 PM

Memory

Scarlett. 08-11-2010 10:06 PM

I think her spirit too, it's nice to think they're reunited in death

Kerry 08-11-2010 10:07 PM

Well, in the pub it showed Jack getting confused (thinking Carla was Peters partner) so I think just a muddled up vision as he passed on :( I guess the producers wanted to make the cryptics think it was plausable if he was confused

Ninastar 08-11-2010 10:08 PM

the memory. I'd like to think it happens to everyone before they die, seeing the person they love.

ikr, Doesn't Steve own a cab company anyways?

Sure he wouldn't wind dropping them off.

They're pensioners though, they'd have a bus pass

Scarlett. 08-11-2010 10:24 PM

The bus was a metaphor, for Jack's death

Jack caught the bus = Jack dies and is taken to the afterlife by Vera

Stacey. 08-11-2010 10:30 PM

Dying memory.. you don't really see people who are dead come back to life, just when you die.

Kerry 08-11-2010 10:31 PM

Hope Molly squirms knowing Jack was disgusted with her when he died

ik, But I still think it was a memory, I think if I was dying talking about the Bus as a metaphor would be something I'd want to hear

Aye, I think in the end, it's down to the individual viewer and what they believe

Mrluvaluva 08-11-2010 10:52 PM

Jack has always loved Vera and he was thinking of her when he died listening to those old 45's. He wanted to be reunited with her and he knew he was dying. He must have felt some comfort in that chair. She was the last thing on his mind and he wanted to be with her.

Callum 08-11-2010 11:03 PM

Spirit for me; I loved that line about the bus, was so fitting for the scene and it made an incredibly sad moment slightly humourous.

flamingGalah! 09-11-2010 12:05 AM

I think it was quite obviously Vera coming to get Jack, her spirit. That's why they had the camera shot go through the house & up out of the roof to signify them going to heaven... If it was a memory surely they would have just used a bit of old footage...

Ramsay 09-11-2010 12:07 AM

if it was her spirit he would of been found dead on the floor

Patrick 09-11-2010 12:13 AM

Why the hell is everyone acting like it was so sad?

It wasn't :laugh2:

I watched it earlier and it wasn't sad at all, even when they found him dead the acting was poor and there was hardly any emotion shown at all.

No drama.

I feel sorry for the guy though but he went peacefully, was hardly sad and tear jerking stuff.

And I really wouldn't call this the best episode of Corrie EVER although I haven't seen them all I do know there's been at least 3 I seen far better than this dull moment.

Um..

He was dead though, when you die or are dieing you tend to see your dead realitives or friends etc.

Novo 09-11-2010 12:18 AM

I watched Coronation street and Eastenders tonight for the first time in ages and Coronation street was streaks ahead of eastenders... the storyline's in Coronation street look more interesting and the Acting is much much better... that new lauren is ****e :joker: and Ian beale is still in it when he should have left years ago, the only time i ever really liked eastenders more then Coronation street is when Sharon was in it years ago and she was going out with that fireman tom... it has truly gone down the ****ter now..
Coronation street's episode tonight beats any episode from eastenders i have seen in the past couple of years at least

No, because it was Jack's spirit dancing with Vera's... He was already dead in the chair...

Visage 09-11-2010 07:08 AM

I think it was her spirit, either way it was beautifully executed.

Eastenders is too dark these days, Corrie still keeps a good balance between drama and humour and it make it feel a lot more realistic. I think most people can recognise people in Corrie as people they know. Everyone knows a Jack & Vera, everyone knows an Eileen, everyone knows a Sally, a Blanche etc whereas with Eastenders you can't pin point people in the same way

Patrick- you obviously would find it emotionless because you never watch it you tool

Locke. 09-11-2010 09:00 AM

Jack and Max are keeping Eastenders above Corrie.

And Alfie aswell obviously.

Sorry but what exactly does that have to do with this thread?? :conf:

We are discussing a certain scene in last night's Coronation Street, perhaps you would be better off in the EastEnders thread...

I was replying to Novo and Tom's posts, and I'll post where I want to.

I think it was a memory of Vera, or Jacks brain playing tricks on him as it was shutting down. I think that's why people see lights as well when they have near death experiences. Your mind does funny things when it's not functioning properly.

Angus 09-11-2010 10:30 AM

It's quite a common phenomena that dying people see their dead relatives and it is a purely subjective viewpoint as to whether they are spirits or memories. We will no doubt find out ourselves in due course! Meanwhile, if a dying person believes they are being reunited with their dead loved ones that must be of enormous comfort not just to the dying person, but to the ones left behind to believe that the dying person is going to be with those he once loved.

I thought the scene was excellently shot, with just the right amount of humour and pathos - it could so easily have gone over the top but it didn't. Perhaps because of the ordinariness of the setting and the fact he was alone listening to his records and thinking of happier times, I unexpectedly found myself sobbing.

You wouldn't be saying that if you had grown up watching Jack and Vera - many people did, they were the mot loveable believeable couple in soap.

Plus Jack has been in Corrie 5 years longer than EastEnders has been running, that's how big of a legend he was

Your comment still has nothing at all to do with this thread...

Typical of EastEnders fans though trying to bait Corrie fans, they do it all the time on Digital Spy... You should join up there, though I expect you already have... ;)

Corrie has loads of people still in it from at least 25 years ago, Eastenders only has one left since the shows start. What are the chances of him still being around in 25 years? Meanwhile Corrie still has Ken from day 1 and Emily from the first few episodes too.

Exactly. Even my Mum has grown up watching a lot of them! I can remember when Kevin & Sally were a pair of teenagers & first started dating, now their kids have grown up! When Deirdre & Gail first appeared in the 1970's they were both young & fancy free girls out for having a good time! Even Steve has been there since 1989 & was a hearthrob back then :joker:

That is where Corrie is so different to all the other soaps...

Scarlett. 09-11-2010 01:43 PM

Even David Platt and Rosie Webster have been there 19 going on 20 years

Though not being played by the same actor & actress for that whole time...

Scarlett. 09-11-2010 01:48 PM

True, but the characters have been there :p

I watch both, neither regularly. Couldn't really care less about baiting someone over a soap when there is a forum full of Rebecca fans from X Factor online.
