Accents

Alright, I've just wondered, do you think that (us) Americans have accents?

sol 17-04-2006 09:39 PM

yes definately

Rory 17-04-2006 09:43 PM

I guess hearing people who don't talk like you sounds weird. Hah.

Legend 17-04-2006 09:47 PM

Yeahh, a real strong one.

The yankee accent, enough to drive enyone up the wall.

Only joking. :spin:

Rory 17-04-2006 09:58 PM

Yeah, there are different accents like Southern or Yankee.

(like when people say Bawsten)

lily. 17-04-2006 09:59 PM

Which part are you from Rory?

Rory 17-04-2006 10:03 PM

Georgia, but I don't have that southern accent.

lily. 17-04-2006 10:05 PM

Rory 17-04-2006 10:41 PM

^^ Meh, they don't really even play any UK program here. We get BBC America, but thats basically it. We get some same stuff from Endemol (Big Brother, Deal or No Deal) I see you guys take some ABC shows. (Lost, Desperate Housewives. Expect Grey's Anatomy next..that's a hit)

And no, I don't have that 'slow-thinker' voice. ^_^ I may have a bit of a southern accent, since I say "y'all".

BB-Rocks 17-04-2006 10:45 PM

I think its cool!

Rory 17-04-2006 10:49 PM

Siouxsie 17-04-2006 11:08 PM

BB-Rocks 17-04-2006 11:09 PM

Rory 17-04-2006 11:17 PM

Pipergun 17-04-2006 11:20 PM

Sorry to the Scots of the forum! - it doesn't affect your personalities! Just personal preference! :blush2:

Pipergun 17-04-2006 11:22 PM

In terms of American accents, I don't have the exposure to determine which accents are which, but I compare the softer accents rather than the brash, brittle accents, if you understand!

Rory 17-04-2006 11:34 PM

I think that everyone sounds like an american while singing. :D

Pipergun 17-04-2006 11:37 PM

Yeah, a lot do - except for opera singers, who sound Italian!

No affence taken .. the Scottish accent is plain

James 17-04-2006 11:41 PM

I think a lot of us over here think that we have more regional variants of accents in Britain.

I can think of Mancunian, Scouse, Yorkshire, Brummie, Cockney, Cornish, Welsh, Aberdonian, Glaswegian and so on.

Can't think of as many American variations, but it might be that we aren't as used to them here so we don't notice the subtle differences.

Legend 17-04-2006 11:43 PM

Irish by far BUT i can't rate them from1-4 because i love the geordie accent and the scouse of course  but i can't bare the cockney accent, and there both English so.... :spin2:

Ohhh and the Birmingham accent, pleaseee no. Cannot stand it.

BB-Rocks 17-04-2006 11:49 PM

I talk Glaswegian - not like a ned though

Pipergun 17-04-2006 11:50 PM

A Ned? Care to elaborate, Davie? I'm slightly bewildered! Hehe! :blush2:

BB-Rocks 17-04-2006 11:51 PM

A chav

Pipergun 17-04-2006 11:55 PM

Ah, makes more sense now!

Good good, that makes it the best for all of us, you see if you were a Chav.....:rolleyes:

(I shall leave you to finish the sentence!)

BB-Rocks 17-04-2006 11:57 PM

Lol

Glaswegian accent is known to be chavy - but everyone here tlks like it. But you the chavs - well you know what people are like when their own drugs etc ..

I rest my case

Pipergun 18-04-2006 12:00 AM

I agree completely! .... I think! :spin:

I don't really think I have an accent, just normal English accent. The only accent in the Lincs/Peterborough area seems to be a habit of dropping "t"s, which I can't stand, and so make sure I don't do it!

BB-Rocks 18-04-2006 12:02 AM

Lol.

Rory 18-04-2006 12:33 AM

:spin2: confused.

too many accents. :)

Corkie 18-04-2006 09:17 AM

ive got a hint of geordie in me according to princess :puzzled::bouncy:

Siouxsie 18-04-2006 09:31 AM

BB-Rocks 18-04-2006 09:46 AM

lol scoobs. i like geordie one

sol 18-04-2006 01:17 PM

Even down in the South-west there are more than one accents, Cornish, Devon, Plymothian, Bristolian, Somerset - the Somerset accent is the most "ooo aarrrr" i think
Dorset probably have there own one too but I wouldnt be able to recognise it unlike the others though.
