Is This Worth Reporting To Ofcom Guys?

Sorry, but I am DISGUSTED.

I just saw an advert for Fall Out New Vegas.

The voice over JUST said:

'The follow up to the 2008 Game Of The Year'.

SORRY, BUT NO.
JUST ******ING NO.

Fall Out WAS NOT 2008's Game Of The Year, Okay?

And I'm sure some of you know this.

The Game of the year for 2008 as deserved, IS...

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.c...ta-iv-logo.jpg

NOT FALL OUT!

I was just wondering, if I could report this advert to Ofcom?
Do they take complaints regarding Commercials?

It's actually upset me.

I just checked Wiki again and it clearly states

Quote:

Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 4 was Game Of The Year 2008.

So what will I do? Should I report it to Ofcom?

Patrick 01-12-2010 09:54 PM

It's actually considered False Advertising isn't it?

Ninastar 01-12-2010 09:54 PM

no

Smithy 01-12-2010 09:54 PM

no.

Ninastar 01-12-2010 09:54 PM

and seriously patrick, your just asking for trouble.

Stu 01-12-2010 09:55 PM

No. Plenty of publications offer game of the year awards. Fallout 3 earned that honor from quite a few of them. You have absoloutely no case.

billy123 01-12-2010 09:57 PM

No

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 01-12-2010 09:58 PM

Just checked the Official Page.

You're correct Stuart, Sorry Stu, It does state the Game of the Year for different publications..

However, GTA IV is top in all of them, Bar 3.

1 is Fable and the other 2 is Fall Out.

I still don't think it's fair, they should just have ONE and that's it.
But I guess it means there's more chance of Red Dead to win this year.

You're all clearly failing with the whole 'No.' chain you're trying to start, It was broke like 7 posts ago.

Bollocks.

I've edited it about 30 times to suit the fussy moderators on here and half the members on here's pathetic monitors.

Cute.

It is fair. It's not a vote system. It's just like different magazines nominate year end movies and music.

This is because this thing called the Opinion Concept exists in the world. Different people and different publications will invariably have different opinions.

You can't just say GRAND THEFT AUTO IV IS THE GAME OF THE YEAR. In your opinion it is, and in plenty of other peoples, but it's not a world held consensus.

So ...

No.

Wrong.

It would be simple and alot better if they just held an award ceremony and got every single Xbox and PS3 user to vote or if they don't vote they get punished.

That way we get a fair indication as to who the people want.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 01-12-2010 10:12 PM

yeah then fallout would win

Scarlett. 01-12-2010 10:13 PM

Fallout is the better game

However GTA IV has the better story

Patrick 01-12-2010 10:15 PM

Yeah bollocks Scott

GTA has one of the biggest fan bases out of ANY video game franchise because it's a very popular series so there we go.

You'd get about 300 people that'd vote Fall Out, Over A Million would vote GTA and COD and it'd be a fight between them.

With COD winning because it's the most over rated game in the world.

Josy 01-12-2010 10:15 PM

LOL Patrick, you get too worked up about stuff.

They do have things like that. They are called award shows. But again they are taken from a sample audience or critics panel because getting a worldwide consensus would be costly and useless. Every type of leading publication for every type of product imaginable has year end awards. Games are no different. Hence why the makers of the Fallout advertisment rightly called 'game of the year'. It's a useful tagline to slap in your adverts and you are allowed do it.

So no, I'm not wrong. Stop being so bloody pedantic. It's ordinary, run of the mill stuff for the video game industry. There is no problem with it and there is no revolution on the horizon.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 01-12-2010 10:20 PM

well it wasnt even released in 08 so it has **** all relevance but still

bioshock >

Stu 01-12-2010 10:33 PM

Bioshock is very repetetive on multiple playthroughs. Fallout, to me, is a clunky, dreary Oblivion with piss poor shooting and a very, very boring first few hours. GTA IV, once you get over the wow factor, is about as much fun as drilling holes through your neck. Saints Row 2 is far superior as a pretention free, fun filled carnage romp and quite a lot of people agree nowdays.

That's my two cents. Metal Gear Solid 4 : Guns Of The Patriots is my game of 2008.

Completely agree, Saints Row are fantastic games, GTA kind of lost it's fun factor with GTA IV, and Saints Row stepped in and took its place. I have a lot more time for the SR games now whereas I got so frustrated with GTA IV that I gave up on it after a few hours

I still need to get Fallout 3, maybe for Christmas, playing a lot of Dragon Age atm which comes very close to topping Oblivion imo, although they're quite different games

Scarlett. 01-12-2010 11:08 PM

Agreed Oblivion > Fallout

Stu 01-12-2010 11:11 PM

I hear the fighters guild are recruiting again.

lol :D I hear they're making a new Elder Scrolls game, I hope its even better

The thing about Oblivion is, you could be anything you wanted, without boundaries

Yeah they recently announced Elder Scrolls V. I can't bloody wait. It's going to take years and years though :(.

MTVN 01-12-2010 11:15 PM

Only problem with Oblivion is that I got so side-tracked by all the possibilities on offer that I ended up having played it for 30 hours or so and not even being very far into the main story

Really? D: Though I suppose that's a good thing, they can't just churn out quality

Stu 01-12-2010 11:20 PM

I have easily done 100+ hours on Oblivion. As much as I love it there's not really a huge amount of variety in it compared to it's predecessor, Morrowind. However it's a beautiful game to just ... well ... walk around. I never fast travelled. Walking between cities was one of the best parts of the game listening to that sexy fookin music.

It's a game I was into enough to actually come up with lame role playing scenarios in my head. I was a no armour, no weapons skooma addict and alcoholic in it once. I'd love to see you be able to actually BE these things in V instead of just you creating it in your head.

I also hope they get rid of the way enemies level up along with you. It's silly when by the time you can get the most powerful swords in the game every common two bit bandit has one. Give players the opportunity to get insanely overlevelled and dominate if they so choose.

When I first started the game I was addicted to doing every little side quest I could find but they seemed to get a little mundane after a while, and the gates can get a bit repetitive. I'm still not completely sure why I shelved it but I stopped playing after 30-odd hours, I'll have to make sure to go back and complete it at some point. I was guilty of using fast travel a lot of the time although if I had time to kill I took a horse and just went wandering around, there's actually some really nice scenery on the plains

I've never actually done the role-creation thing in Oblivion but I did it a lot in Saints Row 2 after I had completed the main game and in Fable a bit as well. It was really sad but it offered some short-term entertainment when there were no real missions to do

Stu 01-12-2010 11:38 PM

Saints Row 2 is great for creating great characters. I used to get a strange thrill out of playing really hot women wearing skimpy shit from the sluttty store in the hidden mall. That place had Ninja outfits, surgeon outfits, everything.

And the Cockyney Bastard preset voice was a thing of beauty.

Yeah "Let's Pretend" or something like that, that was a great place  I weirdly enjoyed dressing up as a serial killer, getting the sword out and just going on a rampage with it. Doing the streaking game was always good fun as well. That was the great thing about SR; it wasnt set on going for realism or anything, it just made a laid-back, fun game

Stu 01-12-2010 11:49 PM

I think the simple fact that you could run without having to hold in a button [1997 RPG, anyone?] made it miles better than GTA IV. GTA IV was where Rockstar forgot what got them to the dance. Instead they went all pretentious, convinced themselves that they really were making a movie, and in no uncertain terms told you that 'you will play OUR vision of GTA IV OUR way damnit!'.

Two hats and two pairs of sunglasses in the entire game.

I mean ... really?!

Saints Row was a throwback game. You could fight wave after wave of enemies who all looked the exact same, but that's the strange quality I want in my games. Realism blows.

It's the ASA that deals with complaints about adverts so you won't get very far going to Ofcom.
